Leofan7
Long-time cacher, first-time poster. I've just been very proud today after creating what I think is a pretty neat-o little GPS bike mount. Okay, it's not going to win any design awards, but it's a quick fix to my problem. I wanted a GPS mount for the caching trip I took today, but I didn't want to shell out the major bucks. Besides, it was only going to be temporary. So me and my dad whipped up this little guy just before we left out of a leftover electrical outlet box. My GPS suprisingly stayed in very well, and I could see the screen well from the seat. So waddya think? Edited March 14, 2006 by Leofan7 Quote Link to comment

+Marcie/Eric
How well does it hold? Quote Link to comment
+Woodbutcher68
Is there velcro on the back to hold it in or just pressure from the sides? Quote Link to comment
+ChaseOnTheGo
WOW!! I bent some metal (maybe 8 inches long by 4 inches wide)into a 90 degrees angle and then curved the top to fit on the top of the handle bars......I like this idea MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER!!! Thanks, ChaseOnThego Quote Link to comment
+Big Sky Explorers
Kinda reminds me of this specially made hardware. I wonder if I could modify that to a hands free GPS???? Quote Link to comment
+user13371
Looks clever, but... If it ever bounces out of that mount, all the money you saved on the holder will go to repairing or replacing a busted GPS. A RAM cradle (RAM-HOL-MA5) costs about $10 from GPS City. Hardware to put that on your bike (RAP274) costs $6. If you also want to use it in your boat, car, hang-glider, etc... there is different mounting hardware and you can get by with just the one cradle. Okay, so it's ONLY an eXplorist 100 - but isn't it worth the extra protection? Edited March 15, 2006 by lee_rimar Quote Link to comment

Leofan7
It really holds well. I mounted it on the bike with a couple of zip-ties and it's not going anywhere. One reason why it stays in so well is the rubberized grip on the explorist GPSr. Quote Link to comment
Leofan7
Is there velcro on the back to hold it in or just pressure from the sides? Forgot to answer this one. It's just the pressure from the sides and the rubber lining. Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
I think that is great . . . but I do remember a thread where somone's GPSr fell out of the mount and it broke. Do you have the lanyard attached to the handlebars somehow? Quote Link to comment
Hu9o
How well does the GPS handle the bumping and shaking from real off-road mountianbiking? (assuming it won't fall out) Quote Link to comment

Zip Ties.........How about when you do cache and dashes......do you "slip" the GPS out or just take the whole box? -ChaseOnTheGo Quote Link to comment
