+BandR
What can I use to remove light scratches from my GPSr screen? Its not so much one or two deep scratches but several smaller ones that are in the middle of the screen. Im sure this has probably been asked and answered before but for some reason Im not allowed to use the search function. Quote Link to comment

+BandR
Can you get this at a Walmart type of place or is it specialized like from a place that sells optics or something. Quote Link to comment

madratdan
When I worked for the airlines we would use a micro mesh kit to remove scratches in plastic windows. I still have a kit and have used it on cell phones and watches to remove even deep scratches. Here is a link to what I'm talking about. http://www.ss-sci.com/micromesh.htm You can google search it for a vendor. A good kit will run between $20 and $80 depending on contents. Good luck and hope this helps. Quote Link to comment
+BandR
Thanks guys, this gives me some ideas. We used to use the micro mesh to clean up helicopter windows and flight helmet face shields in the Army years ago but I havent seen any since then and wouldnt have the slightest idea where to find any. Not sure if I want to pay $20-80 for it for one time use. Edited December 24, 2005 by BandR Quote Link to comment
Hugh Jazz
Novus plastic polish works too. Depending on where you live you can find it at the Container Store. You'll need 3 bottles, numbered 1,2,3. Use in reverse order. Quote Link to comment
+unicyclist
black tar works You dont even see the scratches. Quote Link to comment
+Wadcutter
Toothpaste. The whitening kind works best. Quote Link to comment
+Clyde1140
Toothpaste Rub it in with a soft cloth and it usually polishes the smaller scratches away. Quote Link to comment
caledonia
When you get the scratches off, go to Best Buy or Office Depot and get you some of the protective sheets they sell for PDA screens and cut to fit. I wish I had known about these when I first got my cellphone! =) Quote Link to comment

+EScout
I like Meguiar's Plastx, Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish. Another is Blue Magic Plastic and Plexiglass Cleaner and Light Scratch Remover. These have a very light abrasive and can take some time depending on the scratches. I have used them on cds, DVDs also. +Thrak
Once you get the scratches out I highly recommend that you purchase the Invisible Shield for your GPSr. I put a really horrible scracth in my Invisible Shield and it didn't affect the screen. Once you have trashed the thing you can get a free replacement for life. The thing is $10 but it saved my GPSMAP 76CS. Well worth it. http://www.theinvisibleshield.com Quote Link to comment
