  1. It has the potential to effect bats in the entire US in a matter of a few years. Here is a link to the USFW about current closures. I wish the media would focus more on this tragity in the making. I've heard very little in the local media myself. http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/news/documents/200...NewsRelease.pdf
  2. I read the links. From them I gleaned the prevailing logic was to stay out of the caves. Seems there are a heaping bunch of unknowns in the mix and nobody really knows how the illness is being spread and doubt has been placed on the effectiveness of "wiping down" before entering or leaving a cave. So let me re-phrase the question. What can somebody that doesn't enter caves regularly or plan on entering caves in the future (Joe Average) do to help? Also... ellipses... best... used... sparingly... One thing you can do to help is donate to the research projects. Another is to help educate the general public around you such as friends and co-workers. Here is a link to the National Speloelogical Society web site where you can get the latest updates on this incredably sad situation. http://www.caves.org/WNS/WNS%20Info.htm
  3. I've learned that geocachers are a good representation of the human population.
  4. When did the word God become a curse word??
  5. The general rules for caving are helmet, three sources of light, never go alone, and tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return. The BLM will let you know if the cave is approprate for a cache when you apply for the permit. Hope this helps.
  6. Or some people like me..........like to find caches and then never open them or touch them.
  7. Well multiple emails have been sent with no responce at all . I hate being ignored I think maybe someone doesn't like us or how well we're doing for being a new group . This might be a dumb question to some. ........but, what is and where can I find this "sticky list"? Hummm I am a member of Geocaching Colorado and I don't even know about the sticky list Well maybe, I am on the ignore list Its at the very top of the West and Southwest page. Here is the link so you can see we are NOT there yet! Interesting................maybe if we told them we were from Texas.

  9. Try this link. http://www.caves.org/safety/safety.html
  10. Do these bears use protractors, or some of those 45-45-90 degree contractor angles for that. I'm guessing they take a bearing instead of using a protractor.
  11. Here is an easy read on the subject. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/satoyama/hibernation.html Enjoy!
  12. I first found this forum during a discussion of cave locations on the internet. The place was a little out of control at times back then. But over the years, I've watched a few key people really take control of some heated situations. They have also worked overtime, without pay to keep this place family friendly and sockpuppet free. IMHO, without these key individuals and there guidance, this would be a very vicious forum and this sport would not be where it is today. Cave and Cache Softly, Dan
  13. Here in Colorado Springs, I'd say SparrowPI. The problem with their hides is they are mainly "members only" caches. For mountain caches, Tahosa gets my vote.
  14. When I worked for the airlines we would use a micro mesh kit to remove scratches in plastic windows. I still have a kit and have used it on cell phones and watches to remove even deep scratches. Here is a link to what I'm talking about. http://www.ss-sci.com/micromesh.htm You can google search it for a vendor. A good kit will run between $20 and $80 depending on contents. Good luck and hope this helps.
  15. Beware, this website is neither comprehensive or up to date. What's not up to date?
  16. Here is a good link. http://www.geocachingpolicy.com/usa.html
  17. I usually take my dog along. (Chow/Pitbull mix) No grizzlies in Colorado, so not much use for me to carry one unless I'm hunting. I've lived here all my life and have found the woods to be pretty tame. I do carry in the city once in a while, but not while I'm caching. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's safer to be in the forest than in some parts of the city, here in Colorado.
  18. I need to drive a jet-powered truck! Nah, all you need is a diesel truck. Jet fuel = high grade kerosene.
  19. Member and one of many class coordinator/instructors for the Colorado Cave Rescue Network. (CCRN)
  20. It must be a lady that owns this cache. I know a few that would do something just like this. They go hiking and carry cans of wasp and bug spray to kill any bugs that might cross their path. You might call it enjoying nature in an unnatural way. Then again, it could be a type of medical condition linked to a phobia.
  21. They sit low in the water. if you do get a little water in the boat, guess where it all runs to? It's hard to get in and out of it without dragging in a little water with you. Get a pelican case for your camera. It's the only way to go on the water. Throw in a couple of silica packs to keep the electrons high and dry. One key to surviving on the water is to leave the cotton clothes in the car. Wear nylon and polypro. Also don't scrimp on your life jacket. You don't have to buy the most expensive, but get a good one. That is, if you like yourself.
  22. What type of water are you planning float on? That model is not made for white water use. We have one like that at my parents cabin. It's rather stable but your but's going to get wet
  23. Do you know why he finds "the cachers name" offensive? Is it your name he has taken offense to, or some other cachers name. IMO, knowing this fact may help explain it better.
