Adoption

There is a cache in my maintainable area that has been muggled and needs help. The location is great and the cache was very popular. I'd like to know what is involved in adoption, I think the owner wants someone to adopt it as they live far from it.

Contact a local approver and the owner of the cache you want to adopt. If the owner doesn't respond in a few weeks to a month, contact the approver and arrange an adoption.

It's much easier than that now, thanks to this page, no local approver involvement is required. Just have the cache owner use the Adoptions page to request that a specific cacher adopts their cache. The cacher will receive an e-mail that has a link to a page where they can accept the cache. Once they accept, the cache is adopted. RM

I think that people need to post a list of caches that need to be adopted, just to make it easyer on everybody.

Since caches need to be adopted by people in the cache's area, that's better done in the regional forums.

Any ideas on how to adopt a cache when the cache owner is banned from GC.com??? I've been in contact with the owner and he wants me to adopt it but he can't list it as available for adoption

Just write to contact@geocaching.com and they should be able to help you out. Don't expect an immediate response but they should get back to you. RM

thanks for the info. I'm in the process of getting a cache adopted, I'm having the last person who found it to confirm it been muggled. My cache owner moved out of state, with this info it will be alot easier.
