Published?

I found a new cache today that I had hoped too be the FTF.There were two entries in the log but online there was only a note posted as Published.What does Published mean and can I claim this as a FTF. cache on.

The published log is automatically posted to the cache page when the reviewer clicks the button to list it.

Uh . . . No! There were two people ahead of you who signed the log book. You might be first to log online, but you obviously were not first to find the cache.

Many cachers, myself included, consider it geocaching etiquette to wait for the FTF to post before posting any subsequent find.

Suppose the FTF is someone who doesn't log online. Or the person did a bunch of caches and forgot to log that one (I've done it). Or they are away from a computer for a week. Meanwhile, the cache appears to be unfound because all the finders are waiting for the FTF to do so, so more and more people are going for it, thinking they'll be FTF, only to have to wait.....

I do my online logging when I get back to the computer. If the FTF hasnt logged yet, no biggie, I'll just mention in my log that I was second, third or whatever.

Ditto. I log when I get back to the computer, or when I've got the trip sorted out. Logging as soon as reasonably possible is itself good geocaching etiquette since that feedback is pretty much all the payback the cache owner gets.

yeah i go along with that. i log when i'm next online and will say if i'm not ftf but first to log.

 

means people know it's there and ok and givescache owner some feedback. as has been said first finder might not log it for a couple of days. does it really matter if the ftf is the first to log?

I have also noticed that a late-online-log- FTF- cacher will log in on the date BEFORE so that they are basically logged in first. It works!

I've never seen that...I hope I never do.

 

The date on the log should match the date of the find.
