Geocaching Featured In "the Dead Place"

Recommended Posts

My wife is reading The Dead Place by Stephen Booth and was surprised to find Geocaching playing a part of the plot (it's a murder mystery)

Briefly the police stumble across a Tupperware container in a search of an area of Derbyshire in the UK. The container has in it a travel bug with the www.Groundspeak.com web address which leads them to a local cacher who explains how it all works.

What I found interesting is that the cache name was Petrus Two and there is a real cache Petrus in about the right spot. Petrus was placed by Dodgydaved. The local cacher in the book is Dangerous Dave. and the travel bug Mr Potato Head is also mentioned. Factually all the details are pretty much correct. How the story evolves will have to wait until my wife finishes reading it :) . Either Stephen Booth is a geocacher or has done his research well.

Cool! Geocaching and geocachers are kind of behind the scenes. A perfect setting for a mystery.

I remember when I started feeling 'in the know' about all these locations that very few knew about.
