BKDC
I just purchased my first GPS system, a Magellan Meridian Gold which has expandable memory using a Secure Digital (SD) memory card. My question is does any one know if any standard SD card will work or if the Magellan SD card is required? The user manual does not state one way or another, it refers to the Megellen card, but that is a product they are trying to market. I understand about formating & the GPS has a utility to do this. However I noted the Magellen cards have a lock notch on the left side, does this have anything to do with ejecting the card or write protection? I would not want to insert a standard card & then not be able to remove it. Quote Link to comment
+Stunod
Any brand SD card will work. Quote Link to comment
+GammaPiSigma
I use a Sandisk 256mb sd card in my meridian colour at it works fine. Quote Link to comment
+Mr. Snazz
Any card works. If I recall, a few years ago there was a version of the meridian which had a bug that wouldn't allow it to see over 32 megs of SD storage, but I think that has long since been fixed. I have a sandisk 32mb in my meridian platinum and it works great. Quote Link to comment

vagabond
Go to Magellan groups at yahoo And you'll find how to load multiple maps. You can't do it directly from the pc to the gps. You need a usb card reader or a card slot on your pc. Quote Link to comment
katnbat
Magellin claims that 512mb is the max????? Can you confirm a 1GB card working? Quote Link to comment
+IVxIV
Lowrance is the same. They claim in the owners manuals that 512mb is the official limit, yet don't actually discourage users from trying 1Gb chips.. and lots of people are using 1Gb without a problem. Question: Is a "512mb limit" a real problem to a lot of people? Geez, it wasn't long ago we were restricted to non-expandable internal limits of 8mb. 16mb, sometimes up to 52mb. Now we have 512mb capacity & we're worried about filling it up? Has anyone actually filled up a 512mb card? You could store a continent of street/POI software on one of those.. You can use: Any Brand: Panasonic, Lexar, SanDisk, etc. Any size (18Mb - 1024MB) I would assume ONLY SD cards You can also buy these very cheap at a CVS, Wal-Mart Photo, Amazon, etc. I recently saw my 64MB SD crd at CVS for I think $10 when before I bought it not even a year ago at walmart for $40. So look around but SanDisk seems to be the cheapest. Even on there site. But I'm using a Lexar brand. ~Derek Quote Link to comment
katnbat
my 512MB card is full. I travel 140+ nights a year and need all the data I carry and often more when I go someplace unexpected. katnbat Quote Link to comment
