Unfortunately it looks like I'm out; my daughter's T-Ball game has been rescheduled for 1pm today. I was going to try to make the contest at least, but it's pretty much too late now. :o Have fun y'all.

The Spring Fling and GPS Contest is tomorrow, Sunday, April 10, 2005. Hopefully you will be able to make it. I just came from the contest site. Let the GPS set for a long long time and then averaged for 2000 repeats and got 4.8 foot accuracy and have it all ready for tomorrow just for you. Anyone that read my directions from the contest to Fresh Foody, please disregard. I gave the wrong information. You are on your own. Dick, W7WT

Thanks for the email, too, Dick. I don't know why I've been planning on it being today for the last two weeks... it's that "reading directions" thing that's always given me trouble.

Just a few comments about the Spring Fling GPS Contest. Belleterre and Ajetpilot ran the contest smoothly. I have been going to the site and practice setting it up. Today I had WAAS, all Ds, and in averaging got down to an indicated accuracy of 2.4 feet. We had 38 contestants. The Snow Dogs came in first with an Etrex Legend only 11 and 1/4 inches from ground zero. Over half were within 6 feet of ground zero. All were within 14 and a half feet. Make and model of GPS did not seem to make any difference. It was a great group and I am glad everything went so well. Dick, W7WT

I have been asked to conduct another GPS Contest at the Fall Luau. While the contest yesterday is still in your mind, I would like to know if you would prefer the same type of contest or would you prefer the one I discussed where you would have to donate a GPS related prize to get a flag. Then you would all hunt at the same time with a time limit of 10 minutes. Then we would go to ground zero and draw a circle at one foot. Any one in that circle would go pick a prize. We would

work out way out in one foot increments. With only 10 minutes I believe the flags

would not be clustered like they were yesterday. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dick, W7WT

The contest was really the icing on the event cake.

Good event, overall. I even saw Shunra and Fledermaus exchanging pleasantries!

Yeah, he was a positive surprise!

I wanted to talk to him a bit, but he disappeared in the middle, while I was focusing on Rose.

Most children were sitting with their parents, and many of them might have been bored. The highlight for Rose was the special children's raffle. perhaps at future events like this, there should be a special kids table? Or what about a special geokiddie event (parents welcome too?)

And on a very different note: I checked my credit card statement yesterday, and found that a 15% surcharge was added ON TOP OF the amount that I had put down my signature for, which already included a surcharge, and which in itself appears to have been based on a charge for two adults, rather than an adult and a 7 year old.

I liked Fresh Foody, but I will contact them about this. I suggest you all check your credit card statements as well.

D'oh. I'm glad I paid cash. I don't mind over tipping, but 30% is a bit much, especially for a buffet!

The price was $9.95 + Tax + 15% tip. In my case, that worked out to $24.96, which is what I signed for.

I'll check the bank statement when I get home.

I paid cash and they charged me the same $24.96 for 2 adults. I thought that was higher than what was mentioned, but it's not that big a deal.

The price was $9.90 for an adult, and $0.60 x age for a kid.

So our bill should have been:

$9.90 + $4.20 = $14.10

+ 8.9% tax = $ 1.25

+ 15% tip = $ 2.11

Total: = $17.46

They made me sign for $30.20, which I did without double-checking. That's a mistake I won't make again.

On my credit card statement I now see a deduction of $34.73. Now that's a discrepancy I remembered. So I called them.

I got someone who insisted that I had only been charged $30.20, and that I would get a $12.40 refund. I don't know how she decided on that number, but it's close enough for me. I suggest, though, that you all check your statements, and call Fresh Foody at 360-370-7999 if it isn't correct. There might be more curious mistakes.

BTW - isn't a tip meant to be a service charge? This was a self-service buffet! But I won't quibble about that.

For the rest, BTW, I recommend the place. Good choice, good food.

IF we ever decide to go with them again for an Event, (and right now, it's doubtful), I will get a written contract with the prices.

We're not gonna have this sort of BS happen again.

:(

If you think you got screwed on your bill, call FF and complain. I think I'm gonna.

I think that's a good idea, S99.

The funny thing is that before I found out, I told my wife that it's exactly right for us, where my vegetarian son, and my wife and daughter with their idiosyncratic food preferences and my perfectly normal self could all just get what we wanted and have a nice meal together. If it's just an error they made in my case, then don't dump them. If they overcharged everyone else as well, they should know that they lost our constituency.
