Papa Bear 4
I hid one recently, and it was not approved due to them thinking it was 150' or less from an active railway. I wrote geocache back to inform them that it was 300-400' away. I even went back to double check the distance. The said I can risk it if I want, or just move to a new location. I'm ok either way? What do you say??? Thanks! Papa Bear 4 Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Check the how to place a cache link. If you can prove that your cache is OK under those terms, then it will be listed. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
Papa Bear, it's a close case... cache is more than 150 feet from the railroad tracks (that's the minimum distance we use as a rule of thumb) but here you have a very narrow strip of land between the pond and swamp on the one side, and the railroad on the other side. I can certainly see why the Michigan approver questioned you about it. But if he did say that you could leave it there, it truly is up to you. As cache approvers it is hard for us sometimes to make judgments based upon maps and aerial photos. We will err on the side of caution and safety for something like the active railroad tracks rule. On the other hand, you were actually THERE at the site. Help out the approver by providing any information that might be useful. For example, is there a fence along the railroad line, and the cache is on the correct side of the fence? Personally if I were hiding this cache, I wouldn't have placed it so close to the boat launch, for fear that it would be plundered. On the other hand, that mean-looking swamp to the west looked pretty inviting, but I'm just evil that way. -------------------- Don't mess with the frog. Quote Link to comment
+falcon28
That happened to me in Grand Rapids. They had me adjust where I had them park. Make sure it is on the same side of the tracks. It might help. Quote Link to comment
+Lone Duck
Interesting. For the Park Cache , I had to cross the railroad tracks from the parking area. There is no other approach to it since there is a fence on the other side that prevents an approach from that direction. The tracks haven't really posed a problem though, at least not according to the logs. That Quack Cacher: Lone Duck When you don't know where you're going, every road will take you there. +Renegade Knight
If your not on the RR then plant that puppy! Since the RR's are creating spur lines right and left you might even be able to plant on on RR property with permission since the new and small ones may not be nearly as anal as the old stuffy large rail roads (who's stocks are rising right now) Quote Link to comment
