+Mosaica
I've been going out caching for the last couple of days, trying to see if various ones are doable. Several of them look promising, but not until the ground is drier & harder (like august & september) so I can either wheel the last bits or butt-scuttle without feeling like I've been mud-wrestling. I'd like to submit logs for these visits, but I'm unsure whether to log them as DNFs or notes or simply wait until I approach them again in several months and log either a find or DNF then. In each of the cases I'm thinking of, I didn't actually fail to find the cache, I just looked at the last non-driving bits and decided to actually tackle the last bit in drier weather. But I had some fun adventures & took some nice pictures, and I'm leaning toward logging them. Maybe there's precedence which dictates logging one or the other, in which case I'd like to know, but if not, I'd still welcome opinions. Thanks! ../Mosaica Quote Link to comment
+IV_Warrior
I'd say post a note. Since you didn't actually look for the cache, you really have no idea of it's condition. A DNF might "scare off" other cachers from searching for it. (the logic of this I'll never understand, but it happens. heck I find it MORE satisfying to find a cache with a few recent DNF's than to stick to simply caches that have been found recently) If you had actually looked for the cache and couldn't find it, I'd say post a DNF, but in this case I feel a note is more appropriate. I'm sure others will say post a DNF, some people posts DNF's anytime the enter the waypoint and hit "GOTO" and didn't find the cache, regardless of the reason....... Quote Link to comment
+95_Camaro_Couple
I agree with IV Warrior...post a note. Since you didn't actually make it to the cache...for other reasons than not being able to find it...I don't feel that a DNF is warranted. Now, if you'd searched and searched through mud, etc, and tried your hardest and still couldn't find it, then I'd go with a DNF. But you didn't. Post a note. Paula Quote Link to comment
+SixDogTeam
It's not a Did Not Find, unless you got to the coordinates, searched and could not find it. DNF's are a tool hiders use to decide when their caches are in need of maintenance, in terms of possibly gone missing... Quote Link to comment
GrandpaCannon
The only thing I want to add is if you did have an adventure and took some picutres that you would like to share please share it. As a cache owner I love seeing things like this and even as a cache seeker it is fun to hear about others' adventures. My opinion is that you should always share Edited June 4, 2004 by Cannonlaw Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I post a DNF if I hit Go To on my GPS and come up empty, for any reason. That's my self imposed rule. I don't think anybody will quarrel with you if you post a DNF, or a note, so its totally up to you. As long as you post something (other than a find of course). Quote Link to comment
+Mosaica
Yay! Thanks for your replies. As soon as the weather gets bad again, I'll be doin' some loggin' :-) It's too pretty today not to go out and play though. Cheers! ../Mosaica Quote Link to comment
