beachboys
non custodial dad who takes four weeks to travel in the summer with my son. Thinking my son would like to geocache (he likes orienteering) while we visit various amusement and tourist locations in either the mid-atlantic or new england areas. I would like to set up some sort of adventure whereby we use coordinates to find our next destination. All suggestions will be appreciated. I have 13 weeks to plan. Stupid locations are always encouraged. Past trips included Dollywood and the comedy barn in Pidgeon Forge. Things like the spam museum (IOWA) would be big plusses. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+Threshold
On a road trip with some buddies in '97 we noticed signs for the worlds largest prarie dog in either in KS or IA. We didn't stop for one reson or another, but I sure wish we would have!! I don't have the coord's, but if you can find it, it sounds to be right up your alley!! Quote Link to comment
+Stem
How old is this son? I have many suggestions for south central PA, but if I knew the age I could eliminate some that would be above/below his age range Quote Link to comment

magellan315
Roadsie America is a great resource, used it on a few occasions myself. If you are coming anywhere New Jersey you may want to check outLost in New Jerseylook for the link that says WeirdNJ Geocaches and he rates the level of interest for the locations. Or try Weird New Jesrey Edited April 16, 2004 by magellan315 Quote Link to comment
+cache chasers
If your travels take you to Bedford County (Pennsylvania)....check out Gravity Hill. Gravity Hill Cache Edited April 16, 2004 by cache chasers Quote Link to comment
+PeachyPA
Yes, the Pymatuning spillway is a fun thing with kids. Just outside of Mt. Jewett are the remains of the Kinzua Viaduct which was blown down by a tornado last winter. In Bradford, you can stop at the Zippo/Case museum and see the history of Zippo lighters and Case knives. You can stop in Punxsutawney and see where the Groundhog REALLY sees (or doesn't see) his shadow on February 2nd. It's not in the town square like in the movie. Then there is the Horseshoe Curve in Altoona (lots of caches in the Altoona area). In State College, there is a virtual on the coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Just a few suggestions.......have a fun trip! Oh yeah, we've done the Gravity Hill cache, it was a cool trip up the hill! Edited April 16, 2004 by PeachyPA Quote Link to comment
+Boot Group
I suggest going in search of Whispering Giants. Look up Peter "Wolf" Toth on the internet. I imagine many Whispering Giants are "virtual caches". There is one in zip code 02360. Quote Link to comment
