Team Cheddar
I see the Magellan 2000, 4000, 300, 310, 315, 320, 330. I see the Garmin 12, 40, II, III, IIIplus. Many are at a good price. Are any of these units any good for geocaching? Quote Link to comment
peter
Of those you listed, I wouldn't have any qualms about the 310, 315, 320, 330, 12, III, III+ although newer units from both companies have more bells and whistles. The other listed models are older technology and would have some significant drawbacks, especially if used in difficult conditions. Quote Link to comment
lomd
AFAIK, the Magellan 310 does not have support for a computer cable. That is a major drawback. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
All will work for geoaching. Rule out any that don't have a computer cable. ===================== Wherever you go there you are. Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
I Venture to guess that you are looking for a good small and cheap unit. As the 2nd word indicates, that is a good starter unit with a cable. Those are all older GPS units, are you looking for only used ones??? Always different...Hit refresh Quote Link to comment
Rabbit and Turtle
The 310 does support a computer cable, but you must order it seperately from the unit. However, the 310 does only report degrees to two decimal places instead of the more accurate three, which I have found to be it's greatest drawback. Quote Link to comment
dave and jaime
the 310 supports the pc cable for nmea only. the link to the magellan 310 faq is http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/products/faqs/faq_gps310.asp. it does not allow you to upload/download waypoints which, in my opinion, would be a bigger drawback than the third decimal in degree readings. +TEAM 360
I can personally vouch for the 315 as an excellent choice for a GPS. I have had the Etrex, the 315, and now the Meridian Platinum. The 315 is a solidly built unit, and has gotten me so close with the coordinates that I literally stumbled over a cache on more than one occasion. It's a very easy to use GPS and you will not be disappointed with the features, including a built-in database of more than 15,000 worldwide cities. Quote Link to comment
lost&confused
The Magellan 310 will only talk to a mapping program I.e. microsoft streets and trips. The 310 and the 315 do not have WAAS. The map 330, Sportrak and Meridian series have WASS and you can upload maps. Quote Link to comment
greatwhite6
I used the Magellan 4000 for years and loved it. But it is old technology compared to whats out there now. I sold it and got a Meridian for $99. I love it.. Any belief worth having must survive doubt. Quote Link to comment
