  1. I sent my Meridian in a couple years ago and they were great. Got it back in a week or 2 and they usually throw some extras in the box with it. Data cables, etc.
  2. Just pack it back into the original packaging and take it back to the location of purchase. Tell them you just aren't cut out to use one of these thingies.
  3. I go fishing off the Channel Islands in SoCal and I use it to mark the hot spots the charter boats like to fish. They know all of the underwater structures so i follow them and mark them on my unit so whenever I go out I have a list of spots to drop a line. It always gets me some fish. Its also fun to take one up in a commercial flight and track your speed and altitude. I flew back from Colorado and followed the map on the unit with the terrain below. Cruising at 505mph, leave the runway at 200mph. Prety cool.
  4. Where do you get these firmware upgrades? I have v4.02. I went o the Magellan support site and this is the latest version they have for download. Where do you guys find ver. 5.12 and 4.06? Thanks........ oh, I have a Meridian GPS
  5. My Meridian has taken a few plunges and no problem as of yet. It fell into the hull of my boat during a rough day at sea and I didnt realize until later that it was completely submerged in saltwater for a few min. No problems. When I take it out in the kayak I put it in a ziplock because there is a stong possibility that it will get flipped. "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  6. I had my Meridian out in my boat coming back from the Channel Islands. Seas kicked up and the meridian bounced into the hull of boat. It was completely submerging in saltwater for over an hour and it's never given me a problem. I thought the seals looked pretty lame at first but I'm sold now. They are waterproof.. 7. Magellan Meriadian around $100 if you shop around. WAAS, mapping, 3meter accuracy, great antenna, upgradable... "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  8. Going from memory......I think not! I've owned two magellans over the years and loved both. I've used my friends Garmin's and Lawrence and was never very impressed. To say "the vast majority of geocachers on this site prefer Garmin" is absurd. To each his own..But I'll bet you've never cached with a Magellan.. 9. Get two sets of rechargable batteries (2ea x 2 = 4 for Magellan Meridian). Leave it on or leave it off, who cares. "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  10. Get a Magellan. "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  11. I got my Magalan Meridian for $99. Upgraded the memory and got Mapsend Topo and it was still less than these other units. WAAS comes in real handy here in SoCal and I love the mapping. Electronic compass is useless. Unless you spend alot of time standing still. "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  12. Check the software version shown on the bottom of the start-up screen. If you are not at ver. 4.02 then download it from this URL http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/products/upgrades/upgrade_meridiangps.asp This should improve the unit. I downloaded it the day I brought my unit home and it's locked right on since day one. "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  13. I got my Magellan Meridian for $99. WAAS enabled, mapping, etc. Upgraded the memory and got Mapsend Topo for around another $100. How can you go wrong. Even with all the upgrades it's still cheaper than the other standard units. "Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich" ><DARWIN> L L
  14. I started with the Magellan 4000xl around 5 years ago. Used the crap out of it and finally upgraded last year to the Magellan yellow. Works awesome for cacheing, fishing and boating around the Channel Islands. 2 in 6 years and both Magellan, I hate the french, but they make a decent GPS. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  15. I used mine on a flight yesterday from Phoenix to L.A. Way too cool! Took off at 190mph, cruised at 505mph. Identified the roads, rivers, cities, lakes. I didn't bother to ask if I could use it, I just used it discretely. It is a receiver. It doesn't transmit. Our bodies emitt an electronic field but I'll be willing to bet the farm that there will NEVER be any interferance caused by a GPS unit. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  16. I think it's settled......Magellan is the king Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  17. If you had a real computer you wouldn't be so limited on in your options......Get rid of the mac Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  18. I don't know about the rest of you Magellan owners but my Meridian unit here in SoCal gets killer reception. I sit in my living room and get 2 or 3 weak sat signals. Outside I usually have 9+ sats locked whether in trees coverage, canyons, etc. If you aren't getting "great" reception then I'd guess you have a defective unit. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  19. Do you guys realize just what geeks you really are? It's a freakin tool. Turn it on and go hiking, turn off the pc. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  20. That's a pretty good deal. I'd jump all over that one. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  21. Get the Meridian w/2mb. I picked one up last month for $99. Even came with the car adapter. Got a 64mb SD memory card for $35 at Amazon.com. I have the entire state of California and most of Arizona and Nevada. If you need more than that get the 128mb. No need paying the extra cost for the 16mb when you are going to upgrade it anyway. I had more $ left over than I had planned so got a neoprene case, car swivel, Topo send software and data cable. I'm set with all I need now for no more than the cost of a Gold. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  22. I got a 64mb Viking for $35. Plugged it in and uploaded immediately. No Problemo Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  23. I used the Magellan 4000 for years and loved it. But it is old technology compared to whats out there now. I sold it and got a Meridian for $99. I love it.. Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
  24. As much as I hate the cowardly French. Magellan make the best product in the personal GPS lines. GARMIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! Any belief worth having must survive doubt.
