+cache_n_out Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Hi All, New feature request. I have been geocaching since 2008 and have about a million messages stored on the gc.com server somewhere. Among those must be some unread message. So the little yellow dot on the message icon is always there. I really like to know when a NEW message comes in. I'd happily delete the first 1,000,000 messages to clear the yellow dot indicator. Thanks, cache_n_out 1 Quote

That's what a lot of us use for geocaching communications... yes, a mark all as read or filter by unread messages would be helpful... Edited July 12, 2024 by The_Jumping_Pig 2 1 Quote

Okay, fine..... a good portion of us although I will say that I've recieved a good deal of messages in my time and have only gotten four or so emails... (although I will say that email users are much more formal and polite ) Quote

I understand that reviewers may get more messages by email because they have disabled the MC. 12 hours ago, niraD said: Or you could just ignore the message center... This is a good advice because you can monitor and reply new MC messages by email. No need to use the web. Quote
+Goldenwattle Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 (edited) I prefer the message centre. It's leaves me a record of previous messages. A record of given names for instance, so I can send a message to someone using their given name rather than the geocaching one. More personal. I can see if someone answered a previous query about a signature I couldn't find on a log. If this has occurred again, and from previous experience they won't answer, there's no need to waste time asking for other proof; just delete. I can see those who get rude. You put a NM on a cache for instance, and the CO gets rude, "As cache needs a new log" translates to, I am a nasty person and am ruining the game. (real experience) I can track the lying emails from a CO (and see it in any future dealings with this person), when I had been nicely trying to help them, about their cache not being at GZ (when it was 150m away, and the CO knew it). I didn't know they were playing everyone. (Another conversation happening with other geocachers about this individual). The reviewer came in. They tried to play the reviewer too. The cache is now archived. So I always use the messaging, unless someone insists I email them😖, and then grudgingly I do email🫤. Edited July 13, 2024 by Goldenwattle 2 Quote
