+XeresDan
Hi everyone. First, I just paid the annual subscription. OMG! 66,03$ CAD! I hope, they made some useful changes and updates for that high price! I wanted to download GPX files, with Waymarks from my region. But, downloading everything would take hours for 75 files of 25 places. How can I see waymarks, on my Android phone. Please don't tell me I have to download 75 files! The website still looks the same after 20 years. Still difficult to read on a cell phone. Any help welcome! 1 Quote Link to comment
+FamilieFrohne
First: Welcome back. On 4/13/2024 at 4:47 AM, XeresDan said: First, I just paid the annual subscription. OMG! 66,03$ CAD! I know of other hobbies that require more money per month ... On 4/13/2024 at 4:47 AM, XeresDan said: The website still looks the same after 20 years. Still difficult to read on a cell phone. You are right, not many changes to the Waymarking website layout (the 1990ies still want their layout back). And as the website was created in 2005 Android smartphones were not even planned (first one was around 2007 if I remember right). But we waymarkers are a real small minority compared to the geocachers (~10.000 waymarkers, ~1.800.000 geocachers) , and the technical support and development for Waymarking is done one person, who has also to do some other things beside that. (Thanks again to Bootron, who keeps our game alive). On 4/13/2024 at 4:47 AM, XeresDan said: I wanted to download GPX files, with Waymarks from my region. Your request is a bit unspecific here. If you download GPX files, you usually import it into a program or GPS device in order to navigate to the intended points. As the GPX files generated for Waymarking do not contain cache specific information, they would not be usable for c:geo (or other programs that depend on cache information). So it would be a good idea to tell us about the use case in mind. If you just want to know, where the nearest waymark from your current position is, you could try my little helper here: https://wm.familie-frohne.net/jump.html 1 Quote Link to comment
+fi67
Welcome back! FamileFrohne has said most. The site has been looking the same for ages and is not really suitable for mobile devices. Although we did not even expect that, there have been some improvements recently. But this was mostly background stuff, affecting stability and performance, nothing to see. So you have to find your own procedures. There are a couple of GPX readers for Android that can display the locations on a map and show the most important metadata. I cannot tell you the best one, because I have not visited places with a lot of waymarks for a long time and my area is visited out. Many are free or have a free basic/test version, so you can try. The many files are a problem for most of them. I usually downloaded all those GPX files and combined them in to one with GSAK. Then I downloaded the single large GPX to my mobile, because most apps I used then had problems with many files. 3 hours ago, FamilieFrohne said: That is just CAD $5,50 (or EUR 3,75) per month, which is nearly two cups of coffee in an average café in Germany. I guess, it would pay to travel to Germany for my next cup. Quote Link to comment

Don't know if that has changed (as I were not in a café since last autumn) , but I read some articles on general price increases lately (due to the change of the VAT rate from the reduced 7% from Corona time to the usual 19%), but I don't think they doubled it. Will have a look and report on the next visit (hopefully soon). Quote Link to comment

The average price for a normal coffee in Switzerland was CHF 4.50 (EUR 4.70) in December, but it's easier to find one for 6.50 in and near cities. Special creations like in Starbucks can be up to 9.50. (OTOH, I have not seen a restaurant that offers filtered coffee since I was a kid in the early 70s.) Quote Link to comment
