+edexter
Are there any plans to make the search function on the geocache site actually function properly? Entering the exact current location on the website returned a result more than 40 miles away while Cachly show one a quarter of a mile distant. This is not a new issue. edexter 5 Quote Link to comment
+Mudfrog
Just tried it myself and see that it's way off. Inputting the exact coordinates for a known cache should show that cache first on the list. However, the first cache in the results is 30 plus miles away. Needs checking for sure! 1 Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
I'm in luck. When I tried it just now, the first result was only ~15km / ~10mi away ... with a good number of other caches in between. Wow. Edited January 5 by Viajero Perdido Clarificationment Quote Link to comment
+edexter
To: Viajero Perdido: In other words it's not working for you either. It appears none of the search features are actually working. This link: nearby caches of this type, that I haven't found returned a random series of caches 30 miles away from where the cache was; and the second a list near my home These: "all nearby caches, that I haven't found" were ridiculous: the first gave me a list of my caches; the second a list of caches I hadn't found also linked to my home, not the cache I was at. Searching today for any cache in Boston, Massachusetts, the search gave random cache located in Quincy and Weymouth, a dozen miles and more away. Fixing this is not a priority, clearly. And probably an indication that the feature is seldom used. Quote Link to comment

Super annoying for someone like me right now trying to plan a big US road trip, centering on certain caches and trying to get a list of caches nearby.... no I don't want a list of caches near my home, some 10000km away... lol 1 Quote Link to comment
+Glambarbie
I used to search by coordinates all the time. Sometimes I'd use the coordinates from photos to identify the cache we were at. Can't understand why it stopped working. Anyone know if there is a fix in sight? Quote Link to comment
+Bergbauer
Searching by city name doesn't work properly either. This problem exists since 2022 or so. After entering a city name, the default sorting is "from near to far", which is fine. But "near" is not seen from the city center, but from my home location, which makes the results useless. When choosing "Map geocaches", the map also shows those caches that are nearest to my home location. The picture shows the map result for Berlin. You can see that I live southwest of Berlin - no caches in the city itself show up. A workaround is setting the home location to the center of Berlin or your desired search center. But it's annoying to do that each time. Another workaround is to use the old search (https://www.geocaching.com/seek/). Will there be a fix for that one day? Quote Link to comment
+Glambarbie
Creek_Jumper helped me to figure out how to search by coordinates...and it WORKS! When you go on the website, you can't just use the regular search feature. There's a box that says "Search geocaches near you" and below is a graphic that says, "Go to map." When you use that link, most of the screen is a map and on the top left is a search bar. Here you can search coordinates and it will give you the closest! Quote Link to comment
