+charjg Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 I put a coin trackable in my geocache on July 8 2023. It disappeared several days ago but has not yet been logged as picked up or put in another geocache. Should I just continue to wait? Is it likely to show up again or do I consider it lost? Quote
+Jayeffel Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 It is hard to tell, probably the person picking it up does not know what to do. If you can tell by log who the finders are you can send them a polite message asking them to log it as found. Lost, possible but it may be placed in a cache and the next person may grab it, and it will be viable again. Quote

I don't see any logs by you, where you placed a coin. Was this under a different cache name? These things will disappear and even reappear, and the logs will tend to be frustrating and infrequent. Or even a hundred billion blank Visits (give or take) as somecacher carries it around forevermore. Don't consider it lost, just in the wind. That's the whole fun of it. After a couple of months, and if it becomes confusing to people when they arrive and there's no coin in the cache, you could Mark It Missing. It's an option, just to clean up the cache Inventory. Even then, it can turn up in unexpected places. And then vanish again. Edited August 5, 2023 by kunarion Quote
+BirdSearcher Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Ah, welcome to the frustrations of being a Trackable Owner! The very first trackable I released was picked up immediately & then never moved along (i.e. kidnapped) The cacher never responded to my multiple messages asking him about it. Some good advice I received on this forum was that the way to not get too attached to one trackable was to release more trackables! Since then I have experienced every other trackable situation as well i.e. stolen, lost, moved along as intended...however I am not so attached to them anymore & am more philosophical about them going missing. As kunarion said, I checked your cache listing, it seems that you did not log your coin as being dropped into your own cache…it still shows as being in your inventory. There are a couple of online logs from recent finders that mention swapping TBs so one of them has your coin. These are well-respected cachers so I am sure your coin is in good hands. They will need to ‘grab’ it so that it goes into their own inventory & then they can move it along. 1 Quote
+charjg Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 Thanks for these good tips. I thought I did log my coin, but maybe I missed a step. Quote
+cerberus1 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Looked and similar to kunarion couldn't find your coin in the cache's inventory. No OM or Write Note, so how did you know it "disappeared" a couple days ago? Thanks. A pain in the can having all those "log every trackable in my inventory" folks in the way. Five pages of visits with only 13 finds... They're all premium members, so maybe it'll dawn on one that they need to Grab It from you. Good luck... 1 Quote
