Caching in Cuba?

Recommended Posts

Guest Olar

Have any of you Canuck Geocachers heard of any caches being placed in Cuba? Going there soon for a vacation and plan to take my GPS unit along regardless. Hope their customs inspectors don't find it and think I am some kind of spy or something!

Just tell them it's a toothbrush.

It might be a good idea to contact their embassy and ask them first... I dont think that seeing your mug on the news is the type of advertising that geocaching wants! 8)

halldorr I can't remember exactly where but I think it was a Cuban Customs website or something similar that specifically listed GPSR's as a no-no. As it turned out we ended up going to the Dominican Republic which had no problem with GPS units but no caches there anyway.

Have a great trip with or without your unit.

I'd like to go to Cuba sometime just to add it to my list of countries conquered - and also to see all the old cars, I'll be honest. In any event, many friends and co-workers have visited Cuba and the following themes seem to be common:

- it ain't cheap there any more

- everyone is looking for a tip or handout

- tourists get to pay more (much more) than locals

- don't take anything valuable as it'll disappear

- everything you pay is rounded up to the nearest US$

Have fun!

Hehehehe. I like that last post. For some reason, at my wife's place of work, when you visit Cuba on vacation, you get to have a debriefing afterwards. Fun.

And remember that song from Seasame Street. "The person with the AK-47 is a person in your neighbor hood, in your neighborhood...."

Go all inclusive and stay behind the walls.

I like that, "Don't worry, if you show up with it we will hold it for you."

GPS, whats a GPS, we don't remember you leaving a GPS here?

Bye bye...

Geocacher: Sir, I've come to claim my GPS. I have all the right papers.

Cuban Customs Agent: GPS what GPS? (as he extends he right hand, palm up, and makes buttering motion with forefinger of the left hand)

Geocacher: Okay, I get it, well I won't have any of that crap. I want to speak to your supervisor.

Cuban Customs Agent: (a look of fear and surprise drape across the agents face, followed by a frown of anger) Are you an American Spy?

Geocacher: No, I am not. I am a proud Canadian.

Cuban Customs Agent: Are you a terrorist?

Geocacher: No way. I'm a Canadian tourist.

Cuban Customs Agent: I think you're either an American spy or a terrorist. Guards, take him away!!

Geocacher: NO, wait, you don't understand. I'm a Canadian. Get your hands off me.... Ahhh...Ouch....Stop that, it hurts....Ahhh......

.....

Every hour spent Geocaching is added to the end of your life.
