How to calculate distance between Lat/Long Coordinates BEFORE Caches are reviewed and published?

Set carefully tested waypoints at each point, then you can shoot the distance between each one.  Map software such as Google Maps can calculate it without needing to be in the field.  But I usually measure the distance on site, just to be sure.

Find the UTM coordinates (some tools will help) and use the Pythagorean theorem. :-) [Yes, that works and is not too hard to do.]

I used that too, but you have to make sure that both places are on the same UTM area, although it is very unlikely that you just hit the border between two UTM areas.
