garmin preload

Recommended Posts

I recently got a Garmin E-Trek 25 Touch Screen pre loaded with 250,000 caches. I think having all these in my unit is a waste of memory. Is there a way to deleted a lot of them? And when I load local caches in I can not find a way them in a separate file as I expect to. Am I asking too much?

Currently in Lusk WY on my way to Cheyenne in a couple of day. Summerwinter.

Delete them all, data is outdated anyway. Who knows how many caches are disabled/archived between loading the caches and the unit being sold.

I would try with Garmin BaseCamp.

That will not work. Basecamp is not able to read GGZ files.

You need to connect the GPS to a computer in mass storage mode. Go to the Garmin/GGZ directory and delete the GGZ file that is there.

When I run BaseCamp with my GPS connected on the computer, then I download the content from the GPS, delete (or add) some new caches and finally I export this new app info into the GPS. Like this you create a new .gpx and after that you can delete the previous. It works for me, with a Dakota 20.

The preloaded caches are in a GGZ file. Basecamp does not read or write GGZ files, so will not help in this siutation.
