+paticpatic
I went to check my caches after this past winter only to find Ants like 2 of my caches. Last year, I sprayed the area around those caches with Vinegar to repel them and it seemed to work. Last week, I sprayed the same area and days later the Ants returned. Does any body have suggestions on how to keep caches free from Ant colonies with out harming the Ants? Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
What container are you using? Are they actually getting inside, or are they just tunneling underneath? Quote Link to comment
+paticpatic
They are not inside, I use lock-in-lock cache containers. They are crawling all over the outside of the caches and I didn't want discourage cachers from picking them up. I am thinking there could be something to keep the ants from the area around the caches? Quote Link to comment

+cerberus1
Does any body have suggestions on how to keep caches free from Ant colonies with out harming the Ants? I'd swap out the container with another, and wash the heck outta it. Something's keeping them there, instead of searching elsewhere for food. We've seen geocoins stuck to the walls and tops of our ammo cans, gotta figure kids (and maybe some adults) are probably munching away while accessing your cache. Besides vinegar, my Aunt used to use peppermint (a lotta bugs don't like it),and I sometimes use it if no lemon/eucalyptis against ticks, but I think Raid would be a lot cheaper. +Ant89
Well your cache is on my ignore list as you clearly don't want me finding it More seriously though. Perhaps it's too close to the colony, typically ants will swarm over anything that could be a threat to move it away from the colony. Best move the container a short distance and see if that makes any difference. Quote Link to comment
