+LittleCacheSeekers
Hi Everyone! I'm pretty new to Geocaching and was wondering if you all leave a little signature item or a token gift in each cache you find? My family want to leave a little ladybug with a piece of card with our geocache username on for the next person to pick up. Does anyone else do this and how does it work? Is there a certain way you have to do this which in within the Geo-cache rules? Thanks in Advance! Edited September 19, 2014 by LittleCacheSeekers Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
Welcome to the amazing world of Caching and this (quite quiet, these days - there may be a Geocaching Facebook Group near you, which may be more active) forum. I don't leave items in caches as a rule, but have dropped off Geolympix AANDs (Aluminium Alpha-Numeric Discs - a thing for setting and finding puzzle caches, or useful for setting multis) in caches all around the UK and overseas too. Lots of people have a little something they found 500 of on eBay cheap (micro torches, other tokens, even tea spoons!) that they do leave though. Often something with their caching name on it, if it's a 'Favoite' cache (in their top 10% of favourite caches; if they're a Premium Member, they can reward the cache with a Favorite Point) and they want to mark it as special. Other people's replies will be better Quote Link to comment

If so what kind of writing should i put with it? reason im asking is that i want it to have a wow factor for little ones to find. Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
Given that a lot of caches are Micro and Nano, there's not a lot of room to leave anything. Also a lot of caches are wet (rather than just 'damp')and badly/rarely maintained, so you don't feel like leaving anything... But, if you find a larger cache and wish to leave anything as a sig item, feel free to do so! Quote Link to comment
+LittleCacheSeekers
Thankyou. i was thinking of putting it inside a seal-able pouch like what jewelry are kept in. Also do you know if there is a GR sca\n code as i would like to put this on the back so non cachers can look it up thank you Quote Link to comment

Cache longevity is dependant on non-cachers not finding it. If you're thinking of turning your ladybug into a trackable item, you could purchase a Travel Bug tag and apply the code numbers to it. Most caches large enough for swag should have a stash note inside saying what the container is and how the game's played. The only people who should be finding the cache are those already geocachers. If you're hoping to keep your signature swag safe, then maybe you should rethink whether you want to put 'em out. Quote Link to comment

Surely if i place the lady bug with the info inside the cache I have just found in replace for a swag that someone else has left, Im not actually doing anything that could comprimise the Geocaching game/secret. This cache was found by LittleCacheSeekers ... Geocaching since 2014 and has the geocache logo on it the front and on the back it has ... The QR code and 'To find out more about Geocaching scan the QR code to go to the official website. Ive only added that part in case it is found by someone who isn't a Geocacher! Quote Link to comment

No rules as long as what you leave is allowed in geocaches anyway i.e not a foodstuff or anything smelly or likely to go off, safe for anyone and not something that would embarrass parents if their child found it. I have left low value-Lithuanian coins a few times and these can go in film pot or key safe caches. I am in LT now so will probably bring some more back. This will definitely be for the last time as they are adopting the Euro in a couple of months' time. Quote Link to comment

It's little so it may fit in film canisters and pill bottles. Putting it in a baggie and labelling it helps make it more interesting. Here's an example: You can generate QR codes online. I think kaywa is a good source: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ Quote Link to comment
+Wild-Skye
I often leave trolls dressed in a tartan ribbon with a (home made)mini laminated card attached showing my user name on. Have turned two of these into trackables - one quickly got lost somewhere in US - and last person to find is not answering messages - the other one is happily travelling in Portugal. I like to leave things for kids to find - so I also buy loads of tiny stretchy dinosaurs. My daughter goes mad when I take grandson caching and he comes home with loads of "dirty trash" so my trolls or dinosaurs always go into very small plastic bags with press'n'seal closure.
