+MedTechAsh84
I was wondering what the rules were in placing temporary seasonal caches. I wanted to set up a christmas series that ran all of december through mid jan and was wondering if this was possible? Anyone know the rules for this type of placement? Quote Link to comment
+The Jester
Geocaching.com wants only "permanent" caches (the guidelines define this as at least three months). So you must plan on having the cache in place for that long. I've seen similar caches that change their theme every so often to reflect different holidays. Quote Link to comment

Listing Guidelines that Apply to All Geocaches 5. Geocache Permanence: Geocaches are placed for the long term. Geocachers will expect your cache to remain in place for a realistic and extended period of time. Therefore, caches that have the goal to move ("traveling caches"), or temporary caches (caches hidden for less than 3 months or for events) will not be published. +HHD
We have a few Christmas caches that are great around me. It is even more fun to find them in the summer so you know that Christmas is right around the corner. Quote Link to comment
+The_Incredibles_
No, you can't do temporary caches. We found a Christmas cache the other day, all full of Christmas ornaments. It was fun! And this one's out all year round. Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
If you amend your time frame from late Nov to late February, that meets the 3 month minimum. Edited November 16, 2011 by Isonzo Karst Quote Link to comment

+MedTechAsh84
No the problem is my lease is going to be up and I will be moving so I wouldn't be able to maintain it if it got muggled. Quote Link to comment

It isn't a good idea to place a cache you know you won't be able to maintain in the future, regardless of whether it's holiday-themed or not. Quote Link to comment
+kunarion
my lease is going to be up and I will be moving You can make a cache just for fun, and post coords somewhere (for local cachers, or whatever). You could be much more creative with a cache designed to not last long. Quote Link to comment
