i give up i will carry on with the dakota as it is thanks anyway

If you carry on just using the base maps you're not using your GPSr to it's full potential. Persevere. There are various step by step guides that will show you exactly how to do it. If you only use the base map, you've wasted your money to be honest and might just have well bought a cheaper one. Would you buy a Ferrari and just use it to give your mum a lift to Asda? (Not that I would condone going over the speed limit of course.....)

Talkytoaster maps are your way forwards. Be patient with the download old chap! You won't regret it.

Hi

I use the Dakota 10 with talkytoasters maps and will wholeheartedly stand by the maps.

I use 110729-GB-GMAPSUPP.zip and although it takes a while to download on my poor qualiy wifi, once unzipped ot's very easy to transfer over to the GPS.

I've just installed the UK and Ireland routable maps with contours onto my Garmin Dakota 20, they're brilliant, far better than the Topo's i was using. i renamed them UKroutablemaps.img so i can still keep the old Topo's and some european maps on there.

Hi,

have tried that but i only get the river that is close by me

You could try the maps I compile, they will work on a Dakota 10.

Regards,

Martin

... and they work pretty well on a Dakota 10.
