va griz
Stuff I TRY to always carry: GPSr extra batteries flashlight pocket knife (I carry that when not caching anyway) pens Stuff that I have used to make a cache retrieval tool: magnet mirror tape coat hanger tweezers paper clip screwdriver para-cord Stuff that has come in handy or I sometimes wish I had, even if in the car: camera extra log sheets notebook swag plastic bags paper towels (to dry out container) drinking water on long days Did I mention extra batteries and a pen? Without those, we tend to be nothing more than people wandering around who may or may not know where they are. Quote Link to comment
daystarter67
We actually have a backpack just for geocaching which holds the following... Notebook, cell car charger, extra cell battery, tweezers, matches, garden gloves, flashlight, extra pens, water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, dry socks (this came in handy just recently), bandaids, hand sanitizer,swag,multi-tool. I also pack change of clothes(keep in car)in case weather changes on us. My partner carries a gripper tool and a long stick to bushwack. Both our hats have lights. HA! It sounds like a lot but we have used just about everything at least once. I just saw a post about the mirror, yesterday and will be adding that too Quote Link to comment

Chrysalides
curious...what is magnet for? Among uses I can think of : finding caches with iron / steel parts in non-ferrous environments (like a bush, in bark), or to test to see if a surface is magnetic (for those zntargvp hints). Also useful for retrieval sometimes. Quote Link to comment
EdrickV
More of an urban guy then a hiker so far, so rather then a backpack I prefer to use my Scottevest jacket when I can. (You can carry a ton of stuff in a Scottevest.) Swag Bag: Quart sized Ziplock bag (the Swag Bag itself) Smaller Ziplock bags Pens and pencils in a self made paper envelope Pencil sharpener (one for me, two small one as swag) Swiss Army style knife (little screwdrivers instead of tweezers/toothpick and college branded) Swag Trackables (if any) Other items: Cell phone (These first three items soon to be replaced by a GPS equipped WM6 smartphone.) GPS (Borrowed) PDA (PDA has saved copies of cache web pages stored on it for field reference) Keychain souvenir shop flashlight (Bought one for swag and one for me) Winter gloves (normally stored in jacket with glove liners) Glove liners (essentially lightweight gloves) Off Clip-ons Deep Woods Off LED flashlight (not actually needed yet) Water bottle (for longer walks, actually fits in a Scottevest jacket pocket) Special case tools: pliers and adjustable wrench (tried, and failed, to open a stubborn cache with them on second attempt) Edited June 23, 2011 by EdrickV Quote Link to comment

Stealth Bobber
Sa.....Weet gear....lol Well, let's see... First, the vest: Then, the day pack: A proper set of footware: An adequate flashlight: Night vision scope: And, of course, let's not forget the good old, reliable, geomobile!! Quote Link to comment
TheLoneGrangers
i needed some magnets tied to about 8 feet of fishing line to grab a cache. Tried that idea in my area but all the fence posts are full of water at the bottom. I take bug spray, a flash light and a notepad and pen. and trackables if i ahve any. Quote Link to comment
CluelessnLuV
New Geocaching backpack essential for us on long out-of-the-way trips: Has a charging ability for the phones and can keep GPS running even if batteries are low via USB cord, and flashlight is handy. Quote Link to comment
starrchilde
Pens (gel type, works best on wet logs) Baby wipes Ziptop bags (for replacing logs if necessary) Notebook paper Grocery bags (for picking up trash) Tweezers Trinkets Batteries Solar charger for my iPhone, just in case Small basic sewing kit Lighter/waterproof matches LED flashlight (forgot this the first time around) Leatherman Snacks (larabars/jerky/gum) There may be something else in there, but I think that about covers it - it's nice to see that I'm not the only one that packs for the journey, since I've been teased about the amount of things I carry around with me.
