+Boomtown Cats
I have been asking about the garmin map62t , and the oregon seris, now I have been offered a Dakota 20, I am upgrading from my Gpsmap60cs and a palm pda for paperless caching. Has anyone experienced any problems with this GPS also would I be able to upgrade the memory with a SD card so that it would store more waypoint/Gpx files? Quote Link to comment
+dfx
The SD doesn't affect the waypoint/geocache/GPX storage capacity, it's only useful for expanding your map storage. Quote Link to comment
+eusty
The 62 doesn't use SD cards, you need the 62s for that (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=63800) but it has 1.7GB of storage which is pretty good. I guess you'll hit the maximum number of waypoints before you use that up. Quote Link to comment

Not you can have waypoints etc on the SD card, but it has to load them every time you switch the unit on which slows things down..well this is what happens on my colorado (wiki info) Quote Link to comment
+mpilchfamily
I use a Dakota 10. Same unit but without the extra bells and whistles. Its a great little unit. If your getting the 20 for a good price then go for it. Especially if you can get it for under $200. I will say one thing. The units look a bit small. When i first got mine i was surprised by its size. I expected it to be a bit bigger like the Oregon units. So you might want to get your hands on one first in case you find it to be a bit small for your liking. I went from a eTrex Legend H to the Dakota 10. The relative screen size between the 2 units is about the same so it wasn't an issue for me. Edited May 24, 2011 by mpilchfamily Quote Link to comment

On my Oregon 450, I store most of my GPXs on the SD card and it loads them the same as when they're on the internal storage: only once after they've been uploaded. Quote Link to comment

For some reason, for a while I had a sense that that Dakota screen was smaller, even though it is in fact a bit larger. I think that was because the way the map displays--I still prefer the way it shows on the Legend. But, overall, I do like the size of the Dakota. Quote Link to comment

If it's not already there, you'll have to create that directory. Quote Link to comment
