+dunfie doughballs
Hi all, I hope this isn't a daft question but I am on the look out for a sat nav that i can load caches into. I have the garmin vista for actual caching but would prefer a proper sat nav that could highlight where these caches are as we are driving along. Is this simply a case of downloading these as a gpx file/gsak macro to ANY sat nav unit and this info being shown as points of interest or is there more to it? Suggestions of suitable (and hopefully cheap ) examples would be welcome. Thanks in advance Steve Quote Link to comment

Thanks in advance Steve Any Tom Tom will do what you want ..... just export everything from GSAK to a folder and drag the contents to UK maps or Europe maps on Tom Tom . Even better is to download Big Wolf's macro and export to a file or direct to Tom Tom that way. +Graculus
To see how easy to do it with a TomTom and GSAK click here for my resource site. I can't say how it is done using a Garmin Nuvi or other Sat Nav as I only use a TT. +reddeeps
I have a garmin nuvi, and downloaded a macro for gsak and it does it all for me. If you search on here for nuvi there is a thread about paperless caching with a nuvi. I bought my sat nav of ebay purely due to that thread editted as i found the thead for you http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=193374 Edited December 8, 2010 by reddeeps Quote Link to comment

+Bear and Ragged
BEWARE with TomTom. They went through a stage of not allowing POI's to give a proximity warning, other than their own speed camera database POI (which you paid TomTom for). You can load a POI file of caches and navigate there, but not have an alarm sound if you were near a cache. They do seem to be either updating, or say they will update, their various units. +Flyfishermanbob
Proximity alarm isn't necessary for navigation to caches. It works ok on 530 with up to date software. Quote Link to comment
+Graculus
I create a POI for my TT of just parking waypoints and trad caches. I use it to simply drive to the parking or closest place to a cache. I use a real GPS to navigate to the cache - one with an arrow on it Chris Graculus Volunteer UK Reviewer for geocaching.com UK Geocaching Information & Resources website www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk Geocaching.com Knowledge Books Quote Link to comment
+Teacosies
+1 on the garmin nuvi range, then set it up as Graculus said. Works good with straight cordinates if you are looking for parking and I've even set 2 caches with my nuvi giving good cords to search for. Quote Link to comment
roger-rabbit
Thanks for the tips. Installed on my TomTom300, and it works fine. Even tried to walk to one rural cache today, and couldn't work out how to get to it. Went back to the car, and the TomTom took me right to it. GREAT. Quote Link to comment
