hoosier guy
Here is something interesting. I went to the Turkey Run Stash cache (GCC6)over the long weekend. There were a bunch of travel bugs listed in the inventory but none in the cache. I like to email TB owners if their TB isn't where it should be. One owner emailed me back from Washington state and told me he had visited the park.... "You mentioned Turkey Run State Park. 68 years ago i was attending Eastern Illinois State College in Charleston, Ill. This was my freshman year in biology. Our instructor took us to the Turkey Run State Park because of the abundance of rare plants." He went on to say he had taken some Navy training in my home town! Never would have know about this interesting fellow it it where not for caching!! Have you ever met an interesting person due to caching? Quote Link to comment
+Packanack
All the time. I met a lady one time, who it turned out had written a host of trail guides for the area. On vacation last week met a lady who does triathalons , we were 300 miles from home and it turned out she lived the next town over. I have met BrianSnat in person. One of the local guys got me into reading a rain gauge and reporting the data to a weather data project. I have gone on more than 50 group outings, and each and everyone of them involved engaging and interesting people. One guy is taking flight lessons, another did marathons, another kayaks. Not a single one of them was anything other than a vital personality. Quote Link to comment
+Juicepig
on top of a mountain on Manitoulin island, I met a 90 year old bike courier from Toronto who was on his vacation, and decided to bike here from the city (270 miles or 460 km). We had a good chat on the hill, and the view was surreal. I helped him back down the hill at his request, as he was "Still strong as an Ox, but as nimble as a drunken penguin". Quote Link to comment
+kywaterfowler
I honestly haven't ran into another cacher while I have been hunting. I have seen where I have just missed them. I know that I will be going to one of my first events soon so I hope to meet some of the interesting people in my city and surrounding areas then. Quote Link to comment
Morsedog
I was caching in Zionsville, IN at Lions Park. I saw somebody else I knew had to be geocaching as well. We got to talking and the man owned a restaurant in Indianapolis and before I knew it I was his sous chef. That was 3 years ago and I still work for him. So thank you, geocaching! +The VanDucks
We have met many great people through geocaching! Our local geocaching organization holds quite a few events, and we've been to some. We are introverts, but we always have a great time; it's so easy to talk with other people who enjoy the activity that you enjoy too! Whenever we see another geocacher at a cache, I introduce ourselves, and we usually end up standing around talking for a while. Definitely, geocachers are interesting and active people from all ages and walks of life! Quote Link to comment
Morsedog
We sure seem to have some sort of culture about us. We are linked in a different way to our surroundings. We look at the ordinary and make it extraordinary. I have yet to meet a geocacher who is not an interesting, fun-loving person. Quote Link to comment
