JamesAG Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Was this part of getting out of the ticket for speeding? Quote
+jeff35080 Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Okay... now I'm blushing Thanks for the kind words Joe. I am really glad that you were able to make it down here to the event. If any of you get the chance to meet Joe or Southpaw you will find that you have met two really nifty guys. I think I might have actually gotten some folks a little more interested in benchmarking at the event yesterday As I was telling Joe at the event, I'm trying to hide caches that help introduce people to benchmarks. Here's one I did from last year: Monument, Mark & Micro and here's one that just got approved this morning: McCalla Micro A coworker of mine, has done a similar thing with this cache: Rocky Mount I really do enjoy benchmarks and through geocaching I have met some of the nicest people that share similar interests. Ain't the internet grand? Happy hunting! P.S. Joe... I tore up the ticket, so you're a free man Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... We too have tried to introduce other cachers to the fun of benchmarks with a couple of our own caches. This cache Hoo Doos you have to step over the benchmark in order to get through the people gate to get to the cache. For this cache Lady we set the cache container on one of the reference marks of the triangulation station. Most people have remarked on the benchmark at 'Hoo Doos' but not 'Lady'. Maybe they just don't move the cache container at Lady. We have gotten some positive feedback from Hoo Doos though. +joefrog Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 LOL... some hero! JoGPS is a cool fellow. Good to meet both of you at the event! I've been interested in benchmarking Jeff, but it's a bit confusing. For example, I took a pic of a benchmark this afternoon that I noticed a few days before, but have no idea which one is it -- therefore, I don't know how to log it. It says "city of B'ham Engineering Department, Bench Mark No. 27, " on it. Any suggestions? Joel (joefrog) "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for ye are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!" +jeff35080 Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Hi Joel, yes I have seen several of those around town. There is one on the bridge over the Cahaba River on Hwy 280. They are marks that the city engineers use for various and sundry projects. Jefferson County also has several similar benchmarks. Unfortunately, I know of no City of Birmingham markers which are in the NGS database Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Quote
