+compassreading
Hi, Started this wonderful hobby last Sept. Almost addicted to it! Very curious about the first every cache and/or the oldest running cache. Globally and for Australia? Can anyone direct me to this info or provide it. Thanks Compassreading Sydney Australia Quote Link to comment
GOF and Bacall
You may want to start with this History of Geocaching. Quote Link to comment
+nericksx
Ok, this has been bugging me for while now* and I guess this thread is as good as any to type it out loud: I'm kinda bummed that Oregon is where geocaching was invented, but now the geocaching HQ is in Seattle. Seattle always gets all the fun. Portland is hip! Portland is with-it! *"Bugging" might be too strong a word. It's not like I'm loosing sleep or anything Quote Link to comment
rbirtles
The oldest cache in Australia is in Sydney and is called Lane Cove - May 18, 2000. See Cache No. GC3E. It is now a virtual because New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service no longer allow physical caches in NSW National Parks. Cheers, Rob. Quote Link to comment
+pamlicojack
A couple weeks ago, I found the 40th oldest cache in the World. Nice to know it's been around so long... Octopus Garden Quote Link to comment
+Boreal Walker
Does anyone know what the GC number is for the first cache placed? Looking at Oregon the oldest I see is GC12, but that was placed on 5-12-00 nine days later. I am guessing that it is archived and I will need some help figuring it out. Quote Link to comment

Original Stash Tribute Plaque Cache Don't leave any TBs there. It's well known by muggles and the TBs will be gone in a flash. Have fun! Quote Link to comment

It didn't occur to me that he was thinking that THE ORIGINAL 5 gallon bucket with a GC# of 001 would still exist. I'm afraid that the 2003 replacement is as close as we can get now. +burgessfour
GEOregon will be having a 10 Years! event about 7 minutes from the Original Stash Tribute Plaque if anyone wants to come: 10 Years! Redland, OR. This is where Dave Ulmer hid the very first Geo"stash" and there is a plaque and a cache container there. Quote Link to comment
+WRITE SHOP ROBERT
OK, I was just looking at Mingo, the oldest active Cache and started wondering which one is the oldest that still has the original Container, or even more importanty, the original Logbook.
