  1. I had something similar happen to me, being in an urban environment you dont often see regular sized caches. So it takes forever to find the perfect spot for this one, i put it out and fill it full of goodies. First day a couple of finds and it seems like its good to go, so i go back the first night to drop a large travel bug that wont fit in almost all the local caches,i look and i cant find my container where i put it. So i figure i'll just drop a smaller container there. low and behold over the next few days i get various logs about the different containers, one had cool swag the other had none. i went back to do a triple check and find the original container had been put into a more elevated hide spot that i agreed worked better. dropped my bug and removed the replacement. cache migration, sometimes its not a bad thing.
  2. fun video, glad it wasnt just the same ol spin on this is how it works.
  3. in the last year or so i've been dropping GC related 1" pins. the Quad logo and more recently the regular cache symbol. relatively cheap to procure from a local vender. my latest batch of swag was a bag of gold painted pennies. spray paint has come a long way and im sure its a nifty surprise to find shiny coins.
  4. i got identified at a FTF possibility by the the FTF once. he was sitting at gz which was a busy mall type location, i only did a cursory hard look walk by with my smart phone as there was a teenage couple being lovey dovey at gz which had trapped him with the cache waiting for their departure for replacement. there where 3 caches placed in close proximity and he had already gotten the first two when i logged the first which i suspect tipped him off, but really it was a good spot of "the person out of place". if i had more time it would probably would have helped if i hung out a bit and made the kids move along as we would have chatted up random stuff. yeah the person randomly walking sniffing around thing is a real good tip. i got a stf in a random state necause of noticing the behaviour. withtime it just becomes obvious.
  5. Well, it kinda provides a spoiler. Especially when the sticker or tag is on the same location for your cache. I've even seen them in caches. Its one thing for the geocache traffic to attract attention to places but when another game that is targeting similar activities, it can create a headache of maintenence issues for those that have had their locations piggy backed. I prefer the idea of various containers and possibility of swag, but just a QR code to scan at an already established site? whats the point, and even worse when another geocacher does it.
  6. I have been noticing a lot of geocache logs have started mentioning a similar gps based game markers near current caches. After looking into the other site i've noticed that there are quite a few that have been placed near my caches and others in the area and often share the same name of the cache. What to do.
  7. i cant believe this argument is still going on! Unfortunately our game has become sullied with scrutinizing the minutia of the TOS. tis a shame. Unfortunately though some people are going to become angry with you just because you're popular. Its bound to happen though when your videos dominate the cue for next videos on youtube after trhe one with the fake brick and pipe. Nobody can stop watching after that smooth voice comes on and its a cool cat talking about fun little hides doing what you like to do. Everyone gets jealous of that. We're all tired of lifting lampost skirts in walmart parking lots.
  8. Try a local boyscout troop, since they now have a merit badge for it, they might have some to loan. or you may be able to collaborate an event.
  9. wonder how many people made it to the event. talk about a party
  10. i once went out caching during the day and man, the sun was SO BRIGHT, i decided i better try caching at night. so i went out and turns out it was SO dark! man i wish there was something i could do about it.
  11. i like the fact that coldgears ackronym goes beyond the page borders... but aside from that as everyone else has stated, nope its not gonna be a big deal if you get the FTF. If its their first hide i wouldnt be surprised if it didnt publish exactly when they expect it to , so that'll make it even more of an adventure.
  12. i'd say i agree with a limit, but as many have pointed out theres the few clever ones that get the basics of a good hide within finding only a few. Id really like to see a hold placed on caches that are published the same day or week of account creation. theres at least a half dozen that have recently been released that fall into the "i had an empty chewing gum pack so i put it in a bush near my house" and i used my phone and google maps for the co ords... just a little "you're not allowed to use that feature yet" would go a long way in some of the geotrash thats getting dropped.
  13. i once found an ammo can under a field stone under a bench once. it was on private property and secured to something so it couldnt be removed and had a lock on it. one of the coolest early finds i can remember. there was a lot more to the clues and description to guide you in the right direction to look, but still an interesting twist on the rules. Of course when i first started i thought this activity was gonna be all indiana jones but has turned out to be a different sort of fun. SL TFTC
  14. FTF finds a way to prove they were there, hell a dirt x, a bloody fingerprint, or even a torn corner on the log changes the situation in their favor.
  15. wow talk about a little bit of effort into the leaf and acorn. I'd favorite it!
  16. on a totally different note. i like what you've done with the place. yes, they'll soon realize spoiler pics makes it less fun.
  17. in an unfamiliar area. i always read the logs... last year i was in SF walking towards our hotel, luggage and GF in tow using my fancy phone gps to guide me to the right streets, i looked up and realized that folks were openly smoking crack on the street. it wasnt until later that the SO told me we walked threw the "tenderloin" area and it being the famous for its desparity. the logs are there for a reason, if your encounter in an area provokes certain aspects note them. dont be a drama queen and always be aware of your surroundings.
  18. i wish i could give you 5 favorite points just for your dedication... great job
  19. the best part of round LPC's they dont make that horrible screaching noise... yeah their humor takes some getting used too but you dont HAVE to watch it...
  20. i think just posting a link on the GC page will be good enuff, the people that used the camera when they found the cache wil naturally come back to the page to see themselves... i know i've done it.
  21. whats in that backpack! wow talk about a FTF prize
  22. hey dragery, good job with the trolling hope your hides are as good... 909 is a short drive away
  23. i once left a GC button right next to a lamppost that had no skirt just for giggles. it was near the cache but didnt give away the real location, as expected the next seasoned cacher found it and put it in the cache. tis life people do what they do!
