  1. There are other websites out there that do have benchmarks on them. Minnesota DOT is a good resource for solving benchmark puzzles.
  2. I have been trying to figure out how to do this. What is the easiset way. I have notifications set up to go to my gmail account, but I don't see an option for a telephone number. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Searching online and found this page for North Dakota.
  4. Does anyone know what the GC number is for the first cache placed? Looking at Oregon the oldest I see is GC12, but that was placed on 5-12-00 nine days later. I am guessing that it is archived and I will need some help figuring it out.
  5. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement. The search feature already exists to get a list of all the caches hidden by a particular cacher. All that really needs to be done is turn that search list into a .gpx.
  6. I sent an email to gc.com about this and they suggested I post it here to get feed back. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature to the Pocket Queries page to create one for a specific geocachers hides. The query would send you a .gpx with all of the cachers hides. This way you can dump it into GSAK or some other program and manipulate it as you see fit. Most cachers haven't hid enough caches to make it worth it, but for those that have hidden even over 50 caches this feature, in my opinion, would make it easier to download all the caches into GSAK. Let me know what you think. -Boreal Walker Combat Cacher
  7. I love it when COs do that. Another possibility is weather. I have noticed that on cloudy/stormy days when I really shouldn't be geocaching my readings can err a bit. I have also been guilty of fat fingers a couple of times, and have tried to be more carefully in plugging numbers from the GPS to gc.com. Maybe an upload from the GPS to the website? Nah that you just be to complicated.
  8. Most of this has already been covered by others but some info that might help. http://gsak.net/board//MacroIndex.php This link has been very helpful to me. I have sat down and scrolled through the list many times looking for different macros to bully a PDA into submission. I ended up using a macro called "HtmlExportToDirStructure" to go paperless with my caching. This macro basically makes a HTML version of the GSAK pages broken done first by country, then state, then gc group and then the actual cache page itself. It includes all the necessary info except pictures and how ever many logs you have stored in GSAK. Currently I have 16000 caches stored in GSAK and this all fits on a 256MB card in the PDA. If your devices can read HTML this should work for you.
  9. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could download bi-lingual log sheets. I normally get mine from: http://www.geocacher-u.com/ But they are English only. Any hints on where to get Arabic/English log sheets?
  10. I can speak from experience that you aren't allowed to place a cache on a base inside of the United States. I think that Groundspeak is making an exception here due to the nation of the situation. But it would be interesting to divide kuwait/iraq into two sections. One for military and one for non military. Although I can think of only 7 caches in Iraq that aren't on an installation. Sometimes even on the installation there are certain places that have caches and normal military cachers can't get at them.
  11. Just a little thought from a military cacher. I understand where you are coming from about the caches on us bases being off limits to outside cachers, but it is a two way street. I am not allowed to leave my base and go into Kuwait City and geocache. As much as I would like to. I am stuck with whatever is available on post. Maybe if I come to Kuwait as a civilian on vacation I will be able to grab them.
  12. I have actually been geocaching at numerous bases around Iraq and Kuwait. Luckily my job allows me to travel a lot. As such I have been fortunate. I have yet to run into any authorities while caching, but it is amazing what people are willing to ignore. I have been stopped a couple of times by MPs asking if I need help or a ride while walking around, but a simple no thank you and they are on their way. Cedar II has one cache (mine) and Tallil is just down the road, but a separate base. To the army it is known as Adder. Geocaching has been banned at JBB, but one cache did survive the purge and it is a relatively easy one. Warrior also has seen a demise in caching although talking with the soldier that had to clean up the base there is one left, but it is out on an island and the boat that was used is now gone. If you need help locating a base on the geocaching map all you would need to do is look at my hides. I have a series of Transient Altoid Tins and have left one on the bases that I have visited, that should give you a starting point. There are some caches in Iraq that aren't on a us installation. Some are now on Iraqi military bases. Rustamia and Taji are two examples of this. At Taji four caches are on the US side, two on the Iraqi side. At BIAP there are three caches outside the wire in the middle of the post that are only accessible from the civilian side of the airport. I have been told it is possible to retrieve them, but have not attempted it myself. If you have any questions on caching in Iraq/Kuwait feel free to drop me a line. My teammates think I am crazy for this hobby, but I think it is a little bit of home that keeps me sane. -BW
  13. Well I tried to get a WWFM VI in Kuwait, but I was a little tardy on my application. Oh well. I will try again when WWFM VII comes around. I will need to keep my eyes open next time. I love this idea,
