How to change cache type?

Recommended Posts

I have a small cache series with a puzzle in each ending with a bonus cache which is designated as mystery. I want to extend the series and change the cache type on the bonus to traditional removing the puzzle element. Is it easier to archive it then rename it or can it be changed?

Thanks in advance for advice

Only reviewers can change the cache type after the publish. So either you ask the reviewer who published the cache or the reviewer who is in charge of your area. Or you just archive the listing and make a new one.

It is worth considering those who came and found a puzzle cache, whose stats are then adjusted by you changing the cache type. If its a nice area then maybe archive the puzzle and place a new cache in its place.

Indeed. Also, people use caches for challenge caches these days. Changing the cache type might mess someone up. We typically ask you to archive the cache and enter a new submission.

Indeed we don't change the cache types other than in exceptional circumstances. Making the change can upset the statistics of people who have found it. Some people take their statistics very seriously....... :)

Exceptions are for caches that have an Additional Logging Requirement (ALR) as these must be removed and if necessary the cache type changed. This is the guideline that explains this http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines...gingofallcaches.

If you can't keep the cache as it is then you'll need to archive it and create a new cache at the same location. This also gives geocachers a chance to find a new cache!

Please don't just change the wording on the description to tell people it is a different type of cache as the actual cache type would then be wrong and this will confuse people!

If I found a cache that is years old but obviously listed as the wrong type, and that has indeed caused a few confused caching logs, is it possible to get that corrected, or would that too have to be closed down and replaced? I'm kinda sentimental about older caches you see :D

Cheers,

Jon.

If you have a specific cache in mind let me have the number (I promise I won't just archive it :) ). It may be the owner has changed the description but the cache type has remained as it was. I can't really answer a hypothetical question.
