Posting descriptions of your cache hides

What is the difference between the short and long descriptions as to where they show up? I'm assuming most people use the short and cram it in in under 500 words? I don't see two separate areas where people give info on their cache listings - am I missing something?

I always use both.

 

The short for a general area description and container info - the long for any story or further info - take a peek at any of my listings - there is a clear separation.

The short description will appears as a first paragraph and can be used as a brief summary of your cache in under 500 words, then the longer description block simply continues on underneath so you can give fuller details and explanations/clues etc.

Nothing anymore, other than the character limit. At one time the cache pages displayed text that was keyed in the lower box as indented from the text in the upper box. It hasn't been like that for a few years.

On most of my cache pages I use both, the short to post a pic or special info, the long get all or any other infor or pics related to the cache.

In the past several years, I have been using the "short description" to copy and paste my GPS info from my mapping regarding the cache.

The two sections are separated if you view the printer friendly page. Some people don't want to print off too much so they can hide the long description.
