shivia
Hi members, i plan to buy at CostCo store a Nuvi 260. But this model is on discontinued product list in Garmin website. I wonder if the discontinued model still supported by Garmin - i.e firmware update time to time? Or do not supported at all ? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+Ducky
Usually once they discontinue a model, that's it no more support at all for updates. Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
Not true. Garmin continues to provide support for discontinued products, including firmware updates. They have a long history of doing this. Quote Link to comment
+sim_v
They release firmware to provide compatibility between GPSr and new map products for example. The last Streetpilot Colormap firmware was release several years after product was flagged discontinued. Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
You can see from this incomplete list that the nuvi 7x0 and 8x0 series, which were discontinued in Jan. and Feb., had new firmware released in May. If you follow the links and click through to agree to the download T&C, you'll be able to see the sort of patches that were made. Here's an example for the nuvi 760: Changes made from version 4.70 to 4.80: Corrected issue with TTS voice stuttering. Corrections to Language Guide. Correction to MAD Maps routing. Improvements to phone number/contact display. Quote Link to comment
shivia
So if they continue to support it and everything coming with, WHY put them to this famous discontinued list ? To avoid guarantee repair? Edited June 4, 2009 by shivia Quote Link to comment
namiboy
So if they continue to support it and everything coming with, WHY put them to this famous discontinued list ? To avoid guarantee repair? i believe they do it as a courtesy to just let you know they don't make it anymore. Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
Also, they only have to justify having 20 models out there instead of 40. (I'm just guessing on the numbers, but I don't think I'm that far off!) Quote Link to comment
