GeoBobC
I leave it on, but have never noticed any difference when it's off. Quote Link to comment

Legend Accuracy Depends on Surface Under Antenna Cheers, Jim That's a patch antenna. Do you know if that also applies to the quad helix antenna on the OP's unit? Quote Link to comment

Hi i am new here, so please be gentle with me. WAAS accuracy also requires clear view of horizon, all 360 deg helps. the only time i noticed ( WAAS ON ) made any improvement in accuracy was when on holiday in the maldives, and when on the top of a big lump of rock in the lake district at 2500ft plus. WAAS / EGNOS has the same requirements as GPS itself, because it uses the same frequencies and modulations. Ok... there are less satellites sending WAAS/EGNOS data than GPS satellites but that's the only difference (AFAIK). Quote Link to comment
Fungal infection
All you need to know about WAAS here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_Area_Augmentation_System. not a waas signal i picked up in the maldives then. just super accurate from maximum sats. no waas coverage in the indian ocean. and northern latitudes it does help to have a clear view of the horizon . i suspect if you were in a valley in the rockies, you aint going to get a waas signal. or valley anywhere for that matter. who knows anyway, its all way above my head. +Prime Suspect
Whats paperless geocaching? It's uploading the cache page info, almost always from Pocket Queries, into a PDA or suitably equipment GPS unit. It lets you have a portable version of the cache page with you in the field.
