  1. I would say he/she just likes to keep them. perhaps his/her aim is to collect as many as possible. sad to think that there are some childrens coins and or bugs in her collection. something ought to be done, IF the person does indeed have 400+ in there possesion. he/she must know that it is not the right thing to do. this sort of thing can not be allowed to continue. thats what i think anyway.
  2. I know i live in the uk, which has the very best maps ever produced (lets hear it for OS) but i am still not convinced about having an electronic compass. And to be honest, who would ever go walking in an area (national park / wilderness / desert ) etc without a good old fashion magnetic compass + paper map. And the abillity to use them. Or do you trust your electronic gadgets that much you feel you dont need them ?
  3. my first hobby / passtime is fell walking. i dont need the compass or barrometric alti for that, as i have a real compass in my bag. i bought the cx. the perfect tool for the job.
  4. Thanks again. just checked out all the above. great stuff. things are looking up
  5. downloaded and installed firefox. at last it works many thanks to you all for the help.
  6. thanks for the info people. i have just got into this geo lark. first time i used it it worked fine. then a few times it took a while. and now, nothing. just a little box telling me to get what i allready have. not to good ,is it.
  7. ok. the pc knows when my garmin is connected. (both 60 and 60cx) no probs with memory map or mapsource. communicator plugin downloaded and ok. all drivers check out fine. so why wont the send to gps button work ? screen shot on my web page below. My Webpage
  8. You mentioned contours, paths & watercourses. Does the Garmin UK Topo have the walking footpaths as the OS maps do? strange thing is some paths, i thought would not be on there, are. and some, i though would be on there, are not. but for me topo, is perfect for my needs, and hey i still have paper maps in my rucksac. 1/25000 OS and 1/40000 Harvey (both waterproof) as for the best time to visit. GB is getting wetter all the time. i think last year was the wettest on record. so any time will do. its bound to rain.
  9. your Colorado 300 is a fine tool and would be ideal to bring with you. also get some OS paper maps of the area you want to walk in. i cant say what parts of the uk i like most. (i have not seen it all yet) but at the moment i love the lake district. i bought garmins northern england topo on micro sd card i can say it is as accurate as memorymap and OS paper maps. it just lacks detail. but it does have all the stuff i need like contours / paths & watercoarses. so if you use memory map to plan your route and transfer it to your Colorado 300 with topo installed, you have an awesome navigation device. and dont forget to take a paper map along too. i allways carry a paper map and compass. just in case.
  10. oh, the road angel lost out because it did not take AA batterys. i needed a unit that could be left on all the time i was out and cope with real low temps. the RA is a good mapping gps though.
  11. Thanks for the tip. Looks interesting - seems no prices yet. the lake district area retails for around £125 i belive. plus the link below may be some help My Webpage

  14. Gareth. where did you buy this product ? on line or can it be purchaced in store.
  15. The road angel was on my shortlist for a while. if you are going to come here on a walking holiday i would bring a laptop loaded with memory map, use the software to plan your routes, then transfer the routs to a proper gps. even the basic etrex or gps60 are more suited to our climate. or push the boat out and get a 60cx or csx loaded with topo gb. you dont say in your post if you already owh a gps unit. if you do come here. hope you enjoy our small but beautiful piece of the planet. http://www.flickr.com/photos/laldog/
  16. All you need to know about WAAS here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_Area_Augmentation_System. not a waas signal i picked up in the maldives then. just super accurate from maximum sats. no waas coverage in the indian ocean. and northern latitudes it does help to have a clear view of the horizon . i suspect if you were in a valley in the rockies, you aint going to get a waas signal. or valley anywhere for that matter. who knows anyway, its all way above my head.
  17. Whoops sorry bout the posts. how can i delete my posts ?
  18. That applies to GPS accuracy in general, no matter if you use WAAS or not. Or did I miss something? Hi i am new here, so please be gentle with me. WAAS accuracy also requires clear view of horizon, all 360 deg helps. the only time i noticed ( WAAS ON ) made any improvement in accuracy was when on holiday in the maldives, and when on the top of a big lump of rock in the lake district at 2500ft plus.
