No, no further harassment from Venona, and I will reply to you via forum at greater length either tomorrow or Tuesday; I have been very very busy lately, and am too busy to write any further on the Venona matter now, as a widely-read newspaper columnist wrote about me in her print/online column the other day, wherein she loudly announced to the world the fact that I intentionally sleep on a bed of highly radioactive ore, drink radioactive radon-enriched water (from my radon water jug) and deliberately breathe radon-enriched air. Been very busy handling resultant correspondence and phone calls from around the world. Fame, so fleeting, and so strange...!

Okay, I have managed to break away from my radioactive fan club, or more accurately, my radiation-loving fan club, long enuf to post a longer reply; here goes:

 

Well, it turns out that at least one of the reasons why Venona or her/his/its cronies were starting to pop up into my life was because, entirely unbeknownst to me (I swear! ), the evil KGB spy Venona or one of his/her/its cronies had planted a secret clue for the current Venona adventure cache (on the west coast) near stage 2 of Psycho Urban Cache #3. Once the west coast Venona cache seekers decoded a message which told them about the clue and its hiding spot, one of their team sent emails to a total of 20 past finders -- in two waves of ten emails each -- of PUC #3, asking them for their assistance.

 

Ultimately, a number of the PUC #3 finders who were approached by the greedy capitalist west coast Venona puzzle/adventure cache seekers offered to help, and the final resolution was that three local geocaching teams who were past finders of PUC #3, namely scrubsjm, WVkiwi and Two Lovies, consisting of a total of about five or six persons, traveled to the PUC #3 site on Saturday afternoon and took some impressive photographs under both white light and UV light of the signage label for the Venona adventure cache (co-located with stage 2 at PUC #3) and then sent the images to the west coast Venona adventure cache seekers.

 

I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of the local MD/DC/WV/VA/PA cachers who were past PUC #3 finders and who offered to assist the west coast Venona team cachers, and particular thanks to the three teams that ultimately visited the site and did the deed, and I hope they all had a lot of fun!

 

Oh, and there is a pretty good chance that local cachers out here in the MD/DC area will be hearing from the Venona seekers again in the future, once again asking you to retrieve information for them from a cache site...!

 

There are even rumors that a Freemason conspiracy may be somehow be involved, in a very entangled way, with the whole Venona cache adventure!

 

And no, I do not know whom among the local geoachers has been co-opted by the evil KGB spy Venona.

No, not really, at least nothing new related to the sick Venona "adventure cache" here on the east coast. However, I am hearing that there is now a rumor extant among many local cachers (that is, in MD, WV, VA, DC, DE and PA) that there are even more, and yet undiscovered, links between Psycho caches and the sinister and unwholesome Venona. I guess that time will tell!

 

However, I must admit that a number of local cachers have contacted me to tell me that they thoroughly enjoyed being drawn into the local Psycho/Venona episode last week as participants, and a number of others contacted me to tell me that they enjoyed just being spectators to the whole thing. For all these people, I worry about their sanity and sense of values, or lack of sanity and values, because they seem to fail to remember that the sinister Venona entity (whether it is a she, a he or a cabal) is an admitted KGB spy and also a widely-known assassin and cache thief. Sheesh!

 

And, I must admit that I am AMAZED at the level of interest in each annual Venona adventure/challenge/puzzle cache which is shown by cachers on the west coast. One of the Venona forum threads on the GBA forum has reached 86 pages, and another 64 pages, and another 32 pages! Bizarre!

Update on this year's Venona activities. The latest one was music from the Nutcracker Suite (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy). Somehow people got coordinates in Scottsdale AZ (all way above my head) which Venona verified were correct. Now the west coast cachers will be bothering cachers in AZ.

 

Some sad news from Venona. Mrs. Venona and their dog Lattona were were in a traffic accident. Mrs Venona will be OK, she has a concussion. Lattona didn't fare so well. The accident ruptured a malignant tumor in the dogs abdomen and Lattona didn't make it.

Although he is tormenting us daily, we are all sorry for his loss.

For a quick update on the Venona adventure cache matter:

 

It seems that the west coast team of Venona seekers decoded an encrypted message a couple of days ago which hinted that the key needed for cracking the next encrypted message from Venona would be found near stage 2 of Psycho Urban Cache #7 - A Good Day to Die out here in Maryland.

 

So, they then decided to approach a bunch of past finders of PUC #7 out here on the east coast, in the hopes of persuading at least one of them to travel to the PUC #7 hide site and retrieve the Venona clue.

 

Here is a copy of the letter which one of the west coast Venona cache seekers sent to about twenty past finders of PUC #7 about a day ago:

Greetings, fellow geocacher!

 

I am contacting you because you have found "Psycho Urban Cache #7 - A Good Day to Die" (GCQHBH), and we need your help.

 

I am from the Geocachers of the Bay Area (GBA) in California. Every year since 2002, at about this time, a dastardly character called "Venona" posts to our local forum and leads us on a multi-stage adventure for several weeks, with ciphers, photo interpretation, musical clues, mathematical contortions, night hikes, red herrings, and just about everything else he can think of.

 

Right now in this year's adventure, the Venona clues have led us to "Psycho Urban Cache #7 - A Good Day to Die" (GCQHBH). This cache is in Maryland. We are in California. I have been designated to ask for your help.

 

You are invited to read this year's Venona thread at

You can see this stage starting on page 98, where Marky extracted the following message from an encoded audio file:

Then, on page 100, Venona posted the following correction:

 

WE ARE SORRY TO INFORM FIRST MISTAKE OF 2008. IS CLUE ON PATH TO GOOD DAY TO DIE. WE ARE MAKE SMALL SPELLING ERROR.

 

Will you get the "clue" for us and help us out? Please?

 

If you can help us out, then what we need for you to do is:

 

(a) Post a note to our forum so other cachers local to you will know we already have help.

 

( Go to GCQHBH and (hopefully) find the clue along the path to the cache. Having found the cache before, you're in a better position than we are to interpret Venona's messages.

 

© Post a note telling us what is on the "clue", both front and back.

 

(d) If possible, please post photos of the "clue", both front and back.

 

(e) If possible, please view the "clue" under blacklight (UV light). Venona has been known to hide additional information in clues this way.

 

Of course the best thing would be for you to post your notes and photos to our forum yourself, at thegba.net. You may need to join GBA to do that. If you would rather just email me, then I can also post on your behalf. And of course, if you do succeed in this "mission" for us, you will be forever enshrined in our Venona history. And I know that any cacher here will go out of his/her way to return the favor.
