+Yeahoh
Quick question for you all: What do you think about hiding a micro inside a gazebo at a local park? There is a catch, however, I noticed today when I was "researching" the spot that the gazebo is in MEMORY OF two people that passed away a couple of years ago.. Does that really matter do you think? It is a small 4"X6" sign that is located at the top of the gazebo. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
+swfirefly
Unless that couple was into geocaching, I would say pass on that location out of respect. Otherwise, there's a nano hidden on a gazebo at a local park. Its a cool spot for a hide. Quote Link to comment
+TheAlabamaRambler
LOL, there's a nano or a micro at just about every gazebo in central Alabama... you don't even need to look it up - if you see a gazebo search it, there's likely a cache there somewhere! Go for it. Quote Link to comment
Skippermark
I say go for it. Someone donated the gazebo for others to enjoy. Many park benches in parks around here have plaques on them saying they were donated in honor of them. Quote Link to comment
Skippermark
Whoops, looks like a duplicate thread. I replied in the other one. Quote Link to comment
+Wild Thing 73
Go for it, should be no problem. Gazebo's are for fun and enjoyment and this one is in a public park. I have found one or two caches that has the same situation..."In memory of etc.." I really don't think anyone would mind you placing a cache in or around the Gazebo. Good Luck Quote Link to comment
Mag Magician
In honour of the dearly departed, make it a really evil, but in your face hide. That way, the dedicated can watch from above, or wherever they are, and have a laugh or two. Quote Link to comment
Clan Riffster
I think as long as you don't highlight the "In Memory Of" aspect on your cache page, you should be fine. A passing mention should be OK, if you wanted to bring it up at all. There's an urban micro in a pavillion north of me that took me 17 combined hours of searching to find. It remains a local legend to this day. Quote Link to comment

Little plaques dedicating trees, park benches and so on. Don't even factor it in. The gazebo is there to enjoy by any and all casual users and caching is certainly one casual use way to enjoy it. +Proud Soccer Mom
I've been in parks where everything is "in memory of" because that's how they got anything in the park (private donations). Since there are successful, enjoyable caches in cemeteries, I don't think a gazebo with an individual memorial plaque is any kind of ethics violation. Geocaching isn't and shouldn't ever be defacing or devaluing property, so there's no harm in having a hide in a gazebo. - Elle Quote Link to comment
