Lasia221
A friend of mine who would like to get into caching had a great idea. He's a photographer, and he thinks it would be great to share photos. His first idea was to place a USB memory key in there for people to upload a really cool photo they've taken, but then thought better of that. His next idea was for people to place 4x6 photos in there, I didn't think it would go over well. I think it would be great to have a place where you maybe tell people to go visit/email to upload a cool photo....only those who found the cache get the info, and maybe only those who found the cache can access the webpage that all these pics get uploaded to...??? Thoughts?? Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
Sounds like a neat idea but don't expect a lot of compliance with it. My experience tells me that not everybody will play along. If you make it mandatory for logging then you will have to list it as a puzzle cache (?) [for the addtional requirment] and that reduces potential visitors. Quote Link to comment
+DrgnTrappr
I like it, You could also have them download the picture when they log the find. Quote Link to comment

Thoughts?? It seems like this functionality is built right into the cache page and you could figure out a variation that does not include an external website. I think that is where you are going to lose participation. Quote Link to comment
+steve p
I like DrgnTrappr's idea to just ask people to upload a picture to their log. You could even put simple instructions right on the cache page on how to upload an image to a log entry, since some people have trouble initially figuring out how to do that. If you would like greater participation, you might allow people who have not found the cache to post a note and upload a photo. Sounds like a good cache idea. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
+hockeychik.com
It is simple to buy a disposable camera and place it in the cache. Just add a note on the cache page to please take a tasteful pic when signing the log. Also, ask that whomever takes the final picuture to note that when they log the cache page. Caches need mainentance, so you could always change out cameras when maintaining the cache. Quote Link to comment

I can't see that working with an outdoor cache - film shouldn't be exposed to heat, as it will discolor after time. Also, the conditions under which a truly decent photo can be taken are really limited, and most people don't adhere to those - not to mention the cost in buying said cameras and getting the film developed. I have told him about the idea of asking for photos when finders log the cache, and we discussed even changing around the requested subject matters everytime he does maintenance on the cache. Generic subjects, with a choice of 2 - he would then like to make a page on his site showing off everyone's photos (with credits to the photographers and all that jazz) as an....art project? of sorts...a community gallery... +hockeychik.com
Well, then, never mind. was a thought. Asking them to log a picture on the log page is the only way to go then. However, I would also ask for permission to use the photographers picture. If some neat ones were submitted I would want to create a webpage for it. +KG1960
I have found a couple of caches with disposable cameras in them. The pictures turn out good enough. One we found in the spring and in viewing the photos once the cache owner posted them in the cache's gallery, it looked like the camera was there from summer through winter and spring when we found it. So, a disposable camera would work as long as the cache container was absolutely water tight. The ones we found were ammo cans. Quote Link to comment

My husband has been caching a long time and I only recently got my own account. We found several caches with disposable cameras in them. Most caches are not in direct sunlight. We live in the south and it works fine here. As KG1960 said as long as the cache is water tight, and not in direct sunlinght all is OK. The pictures are usually very entertaining. GPSNEDED
This does sound like a very good idea! I Think that it should support both a disposable camera, and if people so desire they can upload a picture of thier own in the gallery. That way you could get the participation of both people who dont want/know how to upload pics and those who would rather do it that way! Good luck! Quote Link to comment
+Creami Cannoli
There is this cache in my area that asks you to leave pictures of your cats. Quote Link to comment
Lasia221
What do you guys think about asking the cachers ahead of time to bring along a print photo if they are not yet into the "digital age"? I guess I am personally leery about the disposables simply because I worked in photo labs for 6 years, so I personally saw how many bad pictures would come out of those things, lol. I always felt bad for the brides who thought it would be a cute idea to put one on each table....if the person wasn't within the 4-12 feet, the picture was awful. All in all, I think it could be a great project that alot of people would enjoy. I'll pass along everyone's suggestions and see which routes he decides to go! Quote Link to comment
