  1. I am usualy dissappointed in the swag I find in the caches around me so I have a pretty good assortment of stuff that I carry with me. I pick up stuff at yard sales and the dollar stores, the flea market is another good place to find quality swag. The Wife is a potter and has been designing some ceramic keychains with our cache names on them, we will be leaving those next summer while traveling across the country.
  2. I can not remember his name right now or the name of the video game he created, but he has been spotlighted on Groundspeak for one of his themed caches, and I also believe he is the cacher that put the geocache on the International Space Station. Someone please chime in with his name. DrgnTrappr
  3. I have had a paid membership and right now I am using the site for free, not everyone has an extra 30 bucks to spend on the membership but that may change next month or next year so don't take away the ability to still enjoy the game because someone cant afford the money today. I will renew my membership one day but as for now I still want to play and the cost of gas is killing me.
  4. Let me first state that this is my opinion and my opinion alone!!! First off, have you actually gone out and found this cache? Second, did you have fun finding this cache? Third, did you obey every traffic law while going to this cache? lastly, If you were obeying the speed limit, did you take down the license number and description of every car that passed you traveling over the speed limit and call the authorities to report them for speeding? Before you even posted this topic you should have contacted the cache owner and asked him/her if they were aware of the "No Trespassing" signs, and then you should have asked yourself, do I always follow the rules to the letter in everything that I do. Please people quit being sheep, "Live and let Live" forget about all the political correctness, and just have fun. Life is way to short and we have lost so much because of the wishes of a few. If there is truly a problem with this cache it will straighten itself out one way or another. DrgnTrappr
  5. I was not going to reply to this post, but I was reading my Brother-In-Laws blog and thought how this was a good example of how people look at things as being dangerous or not. What one may think is dangerous another will think is a challenge that needs to be met. At the top of every cache listing is a disclaimer announcing that you assume all risk and responsibility as a cache seeker, also each cache has a difficulty and terrain rating so ultimately it is up to you to decide before you ever start to look for a cache whether it is within your abilities and your comfort zone as being safe or not. There is also the attributes for each cache listing that will tell you if it is a good cache for children or not, so again it is up to you to do the research and make the decision that any one cache is right for you and your party to go out and seek. Now you are probably wondering how my Brother-In-Law figures into this, so follow the link below and read about his "Adventure". I will say that for months I have been angry with him for doing this as I felt he was putting himself into a dangerous situation with out considering his family. http://www.climbing.com/exclusive/readerblogs/brian_dickinson/brian_dickinson_-_reader_blog_16/index.html
  6. Way back when, the wife and I were living in Florida we loved camping and hiking, and the outdoors, at the time we were going to a lot of native american Pow Wows, good people interesting places and free camping. We had three kids and not a lot of extra money and did things on the cheap. Well one night we saw this story on some TV show about "The GPS Stash Game" or something like that, and we thought how neat that would be, we looked into it, but like I said we did not have the money for a GPS so we just pushed it aside to memory. Well the years went by the kids grew up, I had changed careers and was gone most of the time, gained weight and had gotten a little out of shape. Then near the end of 2007 I was diagnosed with cancer, and lost a kidney, after the surgery the doctors kept after me to get out and walk to help speed the recovery time. My wife had not forgotten about that game and so that Christmas she gave me a Garmin Legend GPS and a Premium membership to Geocaching.com to give me a reason to get out there and walk more. We have both been hooked ever since, now we dont have big numbers and I am still having issues from the cancer, but we still go out and cache. It has been a great family hobby and even our teenage daughter loves going out with us. DrgnTrappr, DrgnTrainr and DrgnRydr. AKA Team Drgn
  7. I have been looking at the links to other "Liars" caches and have gotten some good ideas on how to word the cache page so as not to be to missleading but still be fun. My problen with the people that took vacation time and rented motel rooms to go find some adventurous cache should have looked at the map. Most of the liars caches are in urban areas not out in the wilderness. Not making any assumptions here but remember some people will complain just to here themselves talk we have all known at least one person that will gripe because there ice cream was to cold. Some times I feel that we all forget why we are doing this, but for me its all about the fun. I want to Thank You all for posting.
  8. I agree. Some apparently find them to be funny but I don't see inconveniencing and pissing off fellow geocachers as a good way to get your jollies. I recall one instance where a group got together and drove a long way to hunt a liars cache and weren't pleased to find out it was a sham. Some bad blood arose from that. I know I'd be pretty ticked off if I went out of my way for what appears to be an interesting cache only to discover that it's a fraud. With the explosion in lame caches it's becoming hard enough to separate the wheat from the chaff without people lying about the quality of their cache. Why would you think that if I placed a liars cache that it would not be a quality cache? With all the "Light post" and "Micros" out there that seem as if they were just tossed out the window of a passing car, atleast a liars cache has had some thought put into it and for those who wish to participate it can be fun. The CO also gets to see a little more effort in the log posts than the normal TFTF. Just one cachers oppinion.
  9. Of course it would only be an option, not a requirement to log the cache. I would only hope that most would play along.
  10. I have been getting things together and have found a location to place a "Liars" cache, but before I place this cache I would like to see some cache pages of other liars caches. So everyone please post the names of some Liars caches so I can check them out. Thank You all in advance and "Happy Caching" DrgnTrappr
  11. You can get QR style travel bugs from a company called Cache Advance, they are on facebook. They are also a registered seller for Groundspeak.
  12. Just got my first travel bugs, my only complaint is that they are made in China. This game was invented by an American using American satellites and I am sure that you could have found an American company to produce the travel bugs right here in America.
  13. This is my first visit to the forums in a long time and was not to surprised to see this thread. With only forty something finds I am still a newbie, but since I started caching I have allways made it a point to log more than just a TFTF. Maybe it is my age or the way I was raised, but I feel that if someone invests thier time and effort to hide a cache then they deserve an effort on my part to show that it was appreciated.
  14. I guess you would call me a lurker and a nubee even though I remember the first cache, and I have been a member since 07. Though I have always been interested in geocaching I did not get my GPS until I was diagnosed with cancer. My wife gave me an eTrex legend to get me out walking after my first surgery, well with the battle and other of life's responsibilities I have not had the time to go out caching as much as I would have liked. But now I am feeling better and have made the time to get out more and my numbers will be climbing.
  15. I have to agree with the majority here, the CO should not have removed your post, but I like to be wordy when logging my finds. There is allways a story to tell, even if it just to say you had a good time. When I look at a cache to go find, if I see alot of TFTC or TNLN on the logs I may not go find that cache thinking it is not worth finding. Buy as everyone has said "A find is a find" and the CO may not like what you logged but you did go out and find the cache.
  16. After consulting the resident Potter geek, my daughter, I would agree that Sguib is the perfect choice. So theres my vote.
  17. zbff : zack buys french fries
  18. Well It has been months since I last posted, but this one got me. Thanks for a good laugh at my own expense.
  19. I quess it would depend on how bad I wanted that cache. You could allways try a disquise, an old blanket, a cardboard "will work for cache" sign, and mummble to yourself. The muggles will pay no attention to you then.
  20. Well I'm not going to argue about the validity of such a cache but but the gaurd rail cache by me on a four lane highway is rated 1/1, its not in the median, but on the east bound shoulder, whats the difference. And Yes we all know some "numbers mean everything" cachers would go for a cache like this just to boost there stats.
  21. How would this system work on a live feed video camera ? I have been planning to place a cache with both a log and the video feed so it will gaullify as an unknown or puzzle cache.
  22. But I think it sounds like fun I just would'nt call it performance art.
  23. Performance Art ??? Now I'm married to an artist and we attend alot of gallery openings and have alot to say about the art world so I hope this isnt anything like the last piece of Perfomance Art we veiwed, not very family freindly
  24. Now I'm not fond of micro's but I have found a few, and a couple were pretty tough to log with all the muggles around. Still I love the treasure part of the hunt too, and lately the treasure has been trash. I have decided that even if I dont take I will always leave some Quality swag so the next finder will not be as dissapointed as I may have been. DrgnTrappr
  25. Hey everyone, I want to thank you all for the positive feedback. I started this post to see if every one else has seen a drop in people finding there caches. I'm sure that with the price of gas as high as it is, and the state of the economy in general, has slowed alot of cachers down. I myself have not been able to go out as much as I would like. Agian thanks to every one and there input. Happy Trails DrgnTrappr
