Too Cheesy?

I have been making custom tokens for some cache swag, but they do take alot of time. I was looking for a faster token idea like a wooden nickle and found this as an option.

 

I picked up poker chips at the Dollar store along with a sheet of NHL stickers. I will put a sticker on one side and a printed lable with info on the other. If I could get better quality chips I will, but what do you think? These will mainly be left with nothing taken in exchange, cause I don't wanna be cheap. But I think they look not too bad. Quick set of 30 tokens for $3 in materials.

Those look good, I do that as a sig item too. The ones I bought have metal in them so I use a magnet to attach them to my ammo boxes I leave them in.

I have seen may people use poker chips as sig items after they have changed them. Yours looks just fine.

I use poker chips for my signature item. You mention wanting to get better quality chips - I'm assuming the ones you are getting in the dollar store are the plastic type. There are numerous sites online that sell poker supplies. I buy casino weight blank chips for about 12 cents each. I also buy waterproof circular sticker that I can use in my inkjet printer (about $1.50 for a sheet of 48). I print my labels, affix them to the chips, and then spray them with a very thin coat of clear artist's fixative. The cost is very reasonable, and the final items look pretty good. That may be an option for you.

I did design a back lable and just ran the labels through the printer, they look fine for what I am after. So next batch will be on heavier chips. Just feels better.

My first set of sig items were wooden nickels painted green with animal stickers on them. People seemed to like them. This time I left the wood finish and drew a monster face and some cattails. I love collecting sig items and I am starting to get quite the collection. I would definately take one of your sig items.

Only point I'd make is that stickers fall off after a while. Some of these may be picked up by other cachers, but my observation is that signature items tend to stay in the caches where they were left. Unless you use high quality stickers which resist heat and humidity (and I don't know how to tell), you will go back to the cache in 2-3 years and find a poker chip and a sticker in different parts of the cache. Many log books I've seen where I can read the color from a signature sticker even though the sticker has long ago dropped off the book.

I agree. In order to help prevent this and keep your hard work dry, go buy some of the small craft bags they sell at hobby stores - they come in 2x3" size - 100 for I think around 2 bucks. Keeps them zipper sealed and less of a chance of them getting ruined. I also place a sticker INSIDE the baggie so people know who my trade item is from. I would love to find one!
