  1. We just bought two at a gun show last Sunday. The .30 cal were $6.00 each.
  2. When we first started it was January. We got alot of snow that year and spent alot of time digging out caches from snow. One of the caches was a guardrail cache at a scenic overlook. The snow was so high that the guardrail was at our feet and we had to dig down to retrieve the cache.
  3. I was at an event where we did a huge hike to find 16 temporary caches. The next day my big toe hurt so bad that I thought I had a stress fracture. A week later the nail turned a nice shade of purple. I attributed the injury to my new hiking boots. I had broken in the boots but this was the first major hike that I wore them on. I still don't know what exactly caused it but if it happens again I am going to the doctor. Many large toe injuries occur because of too small shoes or boots (insufficiently broken in boots could also contribute). If there is less than a full thumb's width of space between the big toe and the end of the shoe, the toe will jam into that. This is especially true later in an activity after the feet start to swell a bit. That is why runners often get black toe nails. In most cases going up a half size in shoes stops the problem. If they feel a bit loose before the feet get a bit swollen from activity, thicker wool socks and making a loop in the lacing at the top to tighten the heel area can help. And keep your toenails cut! Besides causing toe problems, it will also wear out those expensive Merino wool socks prematurely (or so I've been told. I would never let that happen to me!) Good information! I bought my boots a little loose so I will try pairing them up with wool socks and see how it goes. The last time I wore them they felt better but I didn't hike as far. If the boots still bother me I will be buying a new pair.

  5. We buy beef jerky, turkey jerky, mixed nuts, trail mix, water, gatorade, and if it is a long trip an energy drink.
  6. My husband has one and it takes forever to get a signal. Under tree cover it is worse. If you decide to buy it make sure you check for a firmware update. Before we updated his it would suddenly die and get a blue line across the screen. It was a pain to have to stop take out the batteries and let it reload. I have a yellow etrex H and it has helped us get over 200 caches so far.
  7. In our region we log a smiley each time we attend our monthly ongoing coffee event. The location is always different.
  8. We started in January. We basically learned how to cache in the snow. We save the urban hides when we receive a couple feet of snow. There was a guard rail hide where it had so much snow piled around it was at ground level. We had to dig to retrieve it.
  9. How about a cache frozen in ice? Hasn't happened to us yet we have been able to pull them out.
  10. That is the coolest cake ever. Beautiful work! She is very, very talented. edited to add: The picture should be added to the front page collection on GC.com!
  11. I pick them up no matter what I wear. Scarves are the worst for me because they hang down and latch on. Recently I got a huge hive from burrs. One latched on and kept poking me. Later that night I had a huge bump and could not figure out where it came from. The next day I realized that was spot the burr went through my jeans. Ouch!
  12. We have cached in - degree weather/windchills. Which ended in some DNLL. We also cache in the pouring rain. The first time we went we realized our "waterproof" jackets were not waterproof. It didn't matter we were soaked, covered in mud, and didn't find what we were looking for but had a great time! I don't believe that you can catch a cold from the rain. Chances are you were already coming down with the cold and didn't notice.
  13. I second totem lake's answer. Laminate them so the bills will last.
  14. Like the person above me said the Dollar Tree or Dollar General. I was at the Dollar G. yesterday and thought about buying some geo pup toys to leave behind. I bought some dog themed playing cards instead. At a cache we visited last weekend someone made little clay dog bones and decorated them with the Geopup's name. That was real cute but I didn't have anything equal to trade for it.
  15. We are in it for the hunt. We rarely carry things with us. When we do we trade even or up. Sometimes we leave stuff without taking anyting to help out a cache in need. We mostly trade our sig items for other sig items.
  16. We found one that was a bird house at the edge of the park. It was a cool cache. The only problem was a mouse thought it made a cool home and was still residing in it when we opened the cache!
  17. You know the socks that go missing in the dryer? They end up on here.
  18. We use energizer. We have a few chargers and one of them has a car adapter which is great to have on a cache run or while camping.
  19. "That hill isn't too steep if I go this way. The ground is still frozen I can just run up..." I was sliding down as I was thinking this. There was some mud that had thawed out.
  20. My husband is the photographer. He tells me to not to worry and walk on he will catch up. We have some great pictures of our adventures.
  21. I agree. We are not into the first to find craze if we get it we get it.
  22. That sounds like an awesome cache! Go for it. We would love to find a cache like that. My husband and I have some different cache hides planned. You will find complainers on all forums. Try finding a local forum or caching group. People tend to be alot nicer in those because there is the chance of meeting face to face on the trials or at an event.
  23. I like the picture. That one yellow jacket facing the camera is like: "Just try me and see what happens... I got 50 others here who will back me up!"
