newbie with a few questions

just got my first gps unit today(Etrex Venture HC) my first question is every time i turrn on the unit the screen is real dark and i have to adjust the light on it...is this normal or is there somewhere i can make a adjustment so the light will stay constant?????.....2nd question is i have read clues to a few caches and out of 5 or so there has been at leat 3 i believe that mentioned no nighttime cachers if the cach is in a sacoluded place where there is no one is around why is this a problem??? thanks in advance for the replies !!cant wait to find #1

One reason is that forest preserve, state park, etc. mite close at dark

Compared to my Vista C, my new Vista HCx does have a much darker screen and in low light I have to turn on the backlight. Usually I have the GPS unit connected to external power under those circumstances. Outside the screen is easy to see.

 

As to #2, if the cache owner has requested no caching after dark, please honor that request. There can be several reasons why you should not look for the cache after dark, one of which could even be for your own safety . . . :yikes:
