Help - I think i stole a coin

OK - this is very embarrassing, but we were out caching several months ago and grabbed a geocoin. For some reason I didn't log that I had grabbed it and then I lost the coin.

 

Well, I found it yesterday and went online and punched in the tracking code and what it gives me is not the coin that I have. Also, I went back to the cache I think I got it from - hoping the page would still have it there - and its gone.

 

I feel really bad - I want to get this coin either back to its owner or back on the trail, but don't know what to do.

 

Can anyone help?

You punched in the tracking code that's printed on your coin and it doesn't show your coin?

A coin comes up, but it is not the same coin that I have. The coin that comes up has never been anywhere. If the owners that their coin was gone for good - could they have canceled the coin and then another coin get the number? IDK If i could just figure out who the owner is - that would help.

You may be able to check the travelbug/coin history for the cache you got it from. It may still be listed there.

make sure you're typing the number correctly - sometimes it can be confusing with 0=O I=1 B=8 etc. I have done this a few times.

I'm thinking the same thing. That exact coin should show up when you punch in the correct code.

Well . . . I have checked and checked and double checked - I'm puncing the right number in. I'm looking back at cache page histories - and have had no luck.

Maybe the owners dropped it without placing it in the cache. You might try to e-mail them and see if the coin was a "gift" to the cache finder.

What coin is it? Does GC say it is not activated, or does not exist. If unactivated go to its activation code retrieval page and see if it will give it to you. It may of been dropped as a gift by a generous cacher.

I tried activating it and I have no activation code. So, i guess thats not it.

 

I checked the cache page TB history pages - and had no luck.

 

Man - it must be a ghost geocoin or something.

 

Anyway - I'm getting with a moderator - will keep posting.

Oh yea - its a very pretty nature coin. Has a Henry David Thoreau quote on it. Very nice!

If the coin is unactivated, you'll need to retrieve the activation code from the manufacturer, then activate it on GC.com.

Yea - come to find out it was a SnowWolf coin.

 

Well, I think I found who owns it - waiting for an e-mail now.

 

Does anyone know where I could get a SnowWolf coin - wouldn't mind having one.
