New Search feature

Did you know that we can now seek caches from a street address? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/ I just discovered this handy feature was added a few weeks ago.

I tried the following address 61-63 West Smithfield, London (that well known London Watering hole) and it works fine. I also tried a couple of other "short" addresses around the country and it got them right each time.

Interestingly, the first time I tried it with my street address and town, it brought up Staffordshire caches (one of the other Chorleys I guess). When I added Lancashire on the end it was more or less there, in that it picked the right street.

I guess it doesn't go down to individual building though, so those who search for a long street would be out of luck if they want exact results

Wow! I can't believe that it actually works in Ireland

I just tried 3 really small villages near me and they worked perfectly with just the village name without county or country or anything else......I think I need to go and lie down for a while

It does work amazingly well.

Just put in my road name and it got it first time. Also tried a tiny place in Ireland that Yahoo and Google maps can't cope with and it was spot on.

I wonder what's behind that....very impressed.

There are a lot of places in Ireland like that....thankfully fewer now due to the improved 2007 Navteq data but still not quite 100% coverage

Very nice, I also wonder where the data source is from, I wonder if I could use it in some other sites I'm thinking of..

Pretty sure it the Google Maps API Geocoder (edit: yes it definitely is, check the source code!)
