Web Site Suggestion

I would like to suggest a new type of search be added to the Web site.

I would like to see a search by cache type

For example if I want to find only Virual caches within the radias selected.

or Multi-stage or Mystery/Puzzle caches etc.

So any ideas out there I would like to hear them.

You are a Premium Member, so you already have access to Pocket Queries which will do exactly what you are asking.

No, they don't. PQs are a mere export function. You can't do anything with PQ unless you install third party software on your PC.

I guess the OP wants to use the search function on the web page.

@TK7464: Try

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx

- Select the cache type in the first drop down box.

- Select "by coordinate"

- enter your home coordinates.

If you thought GC would provide an option "by my home coordinates" so you do not have to enter your coordinates you are mistaken. I don't know why GC does not implement basic functions like this.

Oh, you are SO wrong! The "preview" function of a PQ gives you the results in the same format as the search function from the web site. Try it...

Yeah. After you set up the PQ you can view the results. You can also view the results of a PQ by clicking the appropriate spot on the manage the PQ page.

Preview the search to view.

And there's even little clicky-places on the PQ list screen so you don't even have to edit the PQ to get to the preview.

I will pay for a one month subscription so I can try this.

How many "previews" do I have per day? As many as I have PQs, which is five?

You can do previews all you want.

Not only that, but you can also bookmark the preview page in your browser to easily return to searches that you use often. I have a bookmark of a query that takes me right to a list of the closest unfound caches from my home.

you can also get that if you got to the Hide & Seek page, then scroll down below the input fields on the left and click on "Advanced search options".

Perhaps you didn't notice this. The single best feature at geocaching.com for ALL geocachers. Especially when it comes to finding events in your state or neighboring states more than 50 miles from home.

My only complaint (don't bite my head off for mentioning this again and again) when doing a non-location based search such all Event Caches in the USA in New York, there is no distance or direction indication makinig this great feature just a little better than no such feature. But again I'll say that everything on geocaching.com is a location so why no distances?

PQ's are great for what it's worth, $3 a month. And PQ previews are all one should have to do to simulate this built-in feature as described above.

The best thing one can do to educate oneself about a web site they use all the time it to actually look at everything that can be looked at on that web site. I mean really look at and think out loud, why do they have THIS or THAT. Try out every text link or <img> link and look at everything.

I'm sure there are some little jems that I have not noticed but some weird ones are useful, especially for puzzle solving.

This particular one is key to successful geocaching.

Ok, I just payed my $3 and now I am able to run PQs and use the "preview" function of PQs.

It works as you described :D but I still can't find nearby "nightcaches" because PQs do not support keyword search. :D

In my opinion, keyword search (and other search types queried through the web page) should support sorting results according to distance to my home coordinates.
