+Liberty
I have recently been informed on the PAPERLESS WORLD OF GEOCACHING. Last night I was the highest bidder for a Palm Pilot on Ebay. Today, I upgraded my basic Geocaching account to Premium. Now, I am thinking about purchasing another gps so that I can just download caches directly from the Geocaching website (I understand that this is currently only available to users with a Garmin GPS unit). I am writing in for suggestions on Garmin GPS units that are well liked by fellow geocachers. I am looking forward to the education I am about to receive. Thank you in advance!! ~With Liberty and Justice for all!! ) Quote Link to comment

+CYBret
I'm moving this over to the GPS Unit and Software forum. You'll find a lot of great opinions over there too. Bret Quote Link to comment

nXtIak
Groundspeask Web page to GSAK then to GPS On a 60csx, what additional info can we see from the .gpx files being a Premium member? Since the .loc files shows the GC code/title/coordinates. No way to see the Info/Hints. What would be the advantage of downloading .gpx files to GSAK then to the GPS? (I just bought a 60CSX, but not a Premium member yet, checking out my options first) Quote Link to comment
+imajeep
I use CacheMate on the Palm for cache descriptions/ logs, and SplashPhoto on the Palm to store maps and aerial photos of cache sites. Works nicely. I'm a huge fan of the Garmin 60Csx--great coverage under trees and in canyons. Quote Link to comment

+Liberty
I'm leaning towards the Etrex Vista or Legend. I already have a Lawrence iFind but because I have upgraded my membership I'm very interested in the pocket queries option. What are the overall feelings of those of you out there with either of these two units? Good signal received while caching in wooded areas? I see that the Vista and Legend come with a base map...I'm getting confused about what I'm reading. I see that there are NO "Points of Interest" on the Vista or the Legend but there are "POIs" on the Venture. Is this true? I'm not looking for the most expensive GPS...I'm looking for a reliable low to middle end GARMIN gps so that I can play with the pocket query feature. Thanks for the replies thus far! ) Quote Link to comment
+Team FIREBOY
We own 2 Garmin E-trex Vistas. One is 5 years old and still working well. The other I just bought 2 days ago, a E-trex Vista CX. It is color, and has an expandible memory. We are currently saving for two new Rinos, 530Hcx. About $595 per unit. They are handheld, color, expandible memory, and the are two way radios to name a few features. While Geocaching in Estes Park, CO. my hubby went for a cache while I stayed at the truck. He was standing on a cliff that gave away and he fell down and went boom. We had no cell signal and I had no idea where he was or that he was hurt. Luckily, he was able to walk out and only had some large bruises and abrasions on both his hips and thighs. Thus the two units. Garmin has said that the release of the new Rino 530hcx will be "second quarter" of this year. We found out that they have released them on the 19th of this month. They are very hard to find. That being said, we really like our 2 Vistas, they have been very reliable. P.S. I paid $299 dollars for my new Vista CX. It does come with a SD card too. Now we can load City Navigator along with MapSource western USA TOPO. We have had no problem using pocket queries with either Vista. We also use GSAK and a laptop while caching. Edited for spelling errors. Edited June 20, 2007 by Team FIREBOY Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
I would get any of the Garmin units that connect to your computer with USB. If you are on a budget, check eBay for the Garmin Legend C or Vista C. If you can wait a few weeks, the new Legend HCx and Vista HCx will be released soon. To handle all the data from the pocket queries you can now get as a result of becoming a Premium Member, I use GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). On my Palm M500, I use Cachemate. Welcome to the wonderful world of "paperless caching." Quote Link to comment
+Liberty
Ok, now after much research on the Etrex Vista and Legend....who can talk about the "geocaching mode"? What does that mode do for a geocacher? Oh gosh~ I'm getting excited about a new GPS!! ~With Liberty and Justice for all!! Quote Link to comment
