Rabbit and Turtle Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I just noticed that if I use the old-style map search, I get the following error instead of a list of the caches in the view: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046' Permission denied /map/maplib.asp, line 191 for example: http://www.geocaching.com/map/ME.asp just thought I'd let someone know...
+Vtop Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I also noticed this. While I really like some of the other mapping features, this one (although generic) really does fulfill my generic needs at times... please come back!
+trainlove Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Certain map search features are Members Only options, if your membership lapsed then it might account for the change. But, since everything is currently being changed, and hundreds of bugs are getting into the system, your best bet is to wait a week or more before trying to do everything you used to be able to do and now can't do.
Rabbit and Turtle Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Just wanted to bump this. I realize this issue is probably not high on anyones to-fix list, but the old style maps are still broken. The new features and yahoo maps are great, but the original map.asp format is still my favorite. If they can be fixed that would be great. Thanks, R&T
ddroppa Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I agree. This feature was fast and efficient, especially when travelling. Many times, I don't know the ZIP codes of the towns I am travelling through, or don't know which town's ZIP code would cover a cache. The cache map feature was great. I emailed Groundspeak a few days ago. They are aware of the problem, according to their reply.

You must enter a street address to get a result..probably because they want to give you the zip + 4. Beating the system is possible by entering a box number in the street address line. I use "Box 100" and it has always worked so far. Whether Groundspeak can do a work-around like this, or find a new data source, or really care enough about this feature to do anything, remains to be seen.
+cynwood Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I too would like to see the old map back. The new map is good at times, but as you already know it is slow for us with dial-up. I like the old map because it gives me a good visual of cache density over a large area, it also allows me to see what sections I have heavily cached and what areas have a lot of possible finds. Just my opinion. Thanks.
+OneStepCloser Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 How about the fact that it was easy to find archived caches? It was great to use when scouting a new area to hide caches and then see why something was archived in the first place...eg., high muggle activity, etc.
