alistair_uk
Someone in the States has been running quite a few Micro events where caches meet up for just a minute. Someone else had the idea of a Flash Mob event where lots of cachers will descend on a public location for 15 minutes to sign a log and then just disappear. This, with a bit of inspiration from Moss’s event, give me an idea for an event that would help with cache maintenance and be a bit more fun and exciting. What about an event that you can only attend if you were first to find for that day on any cache. So to attend you must have found (or re-found) a cache and signed the log before anyone else that day. If someone found the cache before me then I would need to find another. Any thoughts? +scottpa100
Not so keen on the idea proposed. Myself, but I lvoe the idea of a logbook for 15 minutes. Just a square in a town somewhere and the thought of oooooo, 70 people turning up just to sign a logbook and everyone else just standing around wondering what on earth was going on, and then 15 minutes later, the square all quiet again. The locals just standing around in a bemused way "What was all that?" Quote Link to comment
+The Bongtwashes
Be great if you could get 500+ cachers just turning up to sign a logbook, it would then be a Mega Micro event Quote Link to comment
alistair_uk
Not so keen on the idea proposed. Myself, but I lvoe the idea of a logbook for 15 minutes. It would be funny, but I go to events to have a chat and socialise. I would not travel a distance to just sign a log. Be great if you could get 500+ cachers just turning up to sign a logbook, it would then be a Mega Micro event Joking apart this idea has been floated. A one minute event in many places combined to make it a mega event. Personally I would rather this was not classified as mega event. My real motivation here is to get people to check on caches. If you search back through the forums you may find my suggestion of a day (or event) where people checked on there caches, or others, if they had not been found recently. We could not have a standard event just to check caches without Groundspeak creating a new type of cache, but I thought this is a fun workaround. Quote Link to comment
+sTeamTraen
The one-minute events are already bad enough. Let's see, 10 cachers, each one organises a one-minute event at one-hour intervals, that's ten smileys in a day. Do that one Saturday per month and that's 120 finds a year. Log each one three or four times because the miserable so and so's at Groundspeak won't publish your pocket cache and anyone can be a 1K cacher for the price of a few bus tickets into town. Woo-hoo. +HazelS
I quite liek the idea of a micro event at a given location for say 15 mins, but I htink caution would have to be erred. I would suggest that you couldn't have another micro event within 15 miles (or whatever) of another on the same day, to stop mega numbers building... what do our reviewers think?????? +Jimblonduk
How about a game of 'Pass the Book', at a specific location, on a specified date, the log starter gets to sit there until someone else comes along to sign the log, then that cacher must sit there until the next cacher comes along. Only one cacher/team can be holding the book at any time. Once the book has been passed, the original cacher must retire to a safe distance for a pint in the local with the other previous holders. Would you accept the book with risk of being stuck there for an hour or so, or would you forfeit the cache and log it as a did not want to find? Quote Link to comment
